Tesla Supercharger Issue MG5 LR

Re the bolded part of the quote:

That seems to depend on the dealership involved.

As I've reported elsewhere in the forums mine was done FOC and not during a service. Although I do need to add that I was a client of the specific dealership for something in excess of 30 years and a variety of cars by different manufacturers. As of now I've not been able to test whether the update "works" because there are no Open Tesla Chargers within about 50 miles of where it live; and the dealership was scheduled to close permanently a few weeks after the update was done.
2 open to all Tesla sites in Nottingham a mere 39 miles away. :D (based on your profile location of Sleaford, but I guess you may not actually be in Sleaford itself !)

I do live near Sleaford but very rarely visit Nottingham although I was born there!

But maybe, just maybe, I should now make the effort, though the roads on the journey are not the most inviting, especially the A17. :):)

A17, you have my sympathies. :)

Hi, Could you post an update once you've tried the Tesla chargers. Wilson's is my nearest dealer but having had bad experiences there in the past (several years ago with a Nissan) I've avoided them since. Maybe they need another try.
Having signed up via the Tesla app and handed over my debit card details, I stopped off at the well-hidden Tesla charging station in Flimwell on the A268. According to the app this charging station is open to 'other EVs with CCS compatibility'. So I eagerly plugged in, identified the charger on the Tesla app, got the usual string of blue LEDs but then got a message saying that my vehicle wasn't recognised (or words to that effect). So later in the week I'm going to get in touch with Wilson's to find out why, despite assurances from their staff at reception, the update didn't address the incompatibility problem. I'll report back here.

Check the FAQ out and you will find that there are two "Tesla" updates. One is a recall and the other is not. The recall software which Wilsons has said they did used to cure the Tesla problem but doesn't anymore after Tesla "updated" their chargers and you need the other fix as well.

its pinned at the top of the mg5 forum.

I've just spoken to the 'master technician' at Wilson's who was helpful. Apparently, the recall update done on my car was SC055 - I wish I'd thought to ask what that did. Anyhow, he's agreed that to fulfil my original request for Tesla compatibility, update SCO52 for the CCU and an update for the EVCC will be done (mine is EVCC-02 1313393). Although the updating process is quick, there's no nearby Tesla charging station for Wilson's to check it out. I said I'd do that myself and would soon report back if it didn't work! Unfortunately the earliest mutually convenient while-u-wait slot is 23rd September... so watch this space.

Out of the blue, my local dealer sent me this email today, presumably due to asking about this before:

Please see below information regarding the Tesla DC chargers.

MG models have issues charging on Tesla DC chargers; however, methods have been taken to improve the compatibility of MG models with Tesla DC chargers. Only certain chargers will work with non-Tesla vehicles, please make your customers aware of this. A location map of chargers which are “open” for use with non-tesla models can be found on the Tesla App. Please note, this is an enhancement to the vehicle and is not covered by the vehicle warranty. Should the customer want the following work carried out, they will be liable for the cost of repair.

Nothing new here; it's a chargeable upgrade on my FL mode, but good to get an official update in writing.

I had my annual service last month and I asked for the update to be applied at the York MG Dealership, and they said they could do it but that it would cost £67! I said "no thank you!". Should they have asked for a fee?
From most of what I've seen on the forum it depends on the dealership unfortunately! I managed to get it done free of charge at Arnold Clark MG Edinburgh, but I think most people seem to be getting charged.

My 1st full Tesla charge! Saved 0.30 per kWh.

Made good use of the Tesla network over in Europe this last week. Preferred them to others as no messing around with other apps or charge cards - also good value. Glad it got done.

I am off to France next week. Although I have the Tesla update I am struggling to find a way to integrate them into my travel plans. I don't like stopping just to charge and will do it when stopped at services, where there are no open Tesla points. Still, between Bornes Lib and Electroverse, I have no shortage of options, most cheaper as well

Eurotunnel whilst waiting.

Just back from France, only problem we had was one Izivia supermarket fast charger with very short cables which required some creative parking!
On the ferry. I will be arriving with about 65% so will press on to aire de la Baie de Somme for the Ionity chargers

I am in Italy now after driving through France. The Electroverse card has worked well and cheaper than some others. Interestingly it was cheaper to charge at a motorway service station than at Carre four supermarket.

If you do lots of Europe the bip & go toll pass is great. You can pick it up at the bip & go offices. You can get it delivered to the UK but it takes about 3 weeks (the one I ordered is still in the post).

I've actually used Tesla more than Electroverse this year. Not reached Italy, going the scenic route!
