Tbh I wish I knew someone local with an SE that would let me connect to their car, it'd be interesting to see if SIPS shows the modules the same & see how the versions compare

Could meet in Aylesbury on a Saturday end of September if you wish? That’s halfway between Reading and Northampton. Provides it won’t brick my car I’m all up for it.

If it's just connecting the laptop to look there's 0 chance of bricking, if you wanted an update carried out there's a slim chance but unlikely, it is best to have the 12v battery on a trickle charger whilst updating as sometimes the car maintains it whilst updating but not always, I did have one module that lost its OS due to the voltage dropping too low whilst programming, managed to reprogram after I put the 12v on charge though so no lasting issues

Finally got an upgrade from R13 to R33. It definitely seems a lot more polished, and the bigger HVAC controls are a big improvement.
Also noticed I now have reversing distance in centimetres which is a massive improvement, before I’d reverse until it suggested you were going to crash into things only to realise you’re still a metre away.
Have noticed however that my CarPlay dongle doesn’t fire up straight away any more and needs to be unplugged and plugged back in, a pain but nevermind.
Tried to preheat this morning plugged in and charged to 100% but alas that bug is still present on my car :-(

Yes, CarPlay is still a pain with more recent releases, if you connect too soon it doesn't work, some dongles/wireless CarPlay devices have a configurable start up delay which can get round this.

Haven't noticed any serious issues with R33 and Android Auto. The occasional glitch but then that has always happened.

I'm realising that my left star button is actually holding its selection, at least for the moment, so I suppose I should shut my mouth and not complain to the dealer just yet. If it only loses it occasionally, that's not a big deal.

I wouldn't say it was impossible. They do have a warning in the instructions NOT to do that though

They are the same hardware and it is just Android after all.

edit: Says me whos currently trying to talk himself out of trying to install UK R33 over an Australian R05 setup...

That will confuse your dealer at service time!

That's the main thing stopping me from trying it!

Plus I don't have the original to put back if it doesn't work.
