The Pointless (?) Journeys Thread

ERO hadn't been used for a while (last Wednesday I think) so I thought I'd take him for a short spin this afternoon to help charge the 12V battery, and to take the HV battery below 10% so I could do a <10 to 100% and balance charge. So no destination in mind, just driving ... 50 miles later ..................... ?

This was with an average ambient of 4°C, Sport mode the whole way, and regen varied between A and 1. He gave me 100% power all the way until below 20% SoC, but even down to 8% SoC he was still giving me 80% power.

Anyone else just do pointless journeys?

I’ve only had my MG just under 3 weeks now and have done a few pointless journeys. We do have some fantastic roads over here on the Isle of Wight and the car is so nice to drive ?

Crazy thing is, I still haven’t tried it in Sport Mode. Mainly just leave it in Normal or few occasions it’s gone into ECO

Is there a noticeable difference from Normal - Sport mode? I personally find Normal just right, you can drive it comfortably or there’s enough power there if needed

It re-maps the 'throttle' so you get more power at less travel, but it doesn't change the max. power - you still get exactly the same full power if you floor it. I keep it in normal too.

The different modes change how the power is "delivered" rather than the power available. Sport mode is just more responsive - it also adds weight to the steering and throttle pedal feel.

I ,m going to sound like a stuck record but the other day I drove straight past the supermarket for another 25 km and back again just to enjoy the empty road , no need to charge the battery or monitor the cars schematics , no purpose at all, can,t tell you how much battery percentage I used , temperature or regen levels but I did enjoy it and I managed to get back in time for Pointless. A truly pointless journey ! Glad to get that off my back, wish I,d mentioned it earlier .

I avoid a pointless journey when my daughters attend a special orchestra practice once a month. It's a 30 minute drive at least, and if I came home immediately after dropping them off, I would be home for about an hour before having to leave again to pick them up.

Instead I go to the local cafe, treat myself to a full English breakfast, and read a book. Sometimes I'll head back to the school, park up and watch a film or something on the infotainment.

That said the drive to drop them off is a good fast twisty A road, so plenty of fun to be had as tends to be very quiet on Sunday mornings.

Yes I set off to do another pointless journey today. I decided I wouldn’t cook my dinner tonight so jumped in the car to seek sustenance. I bought some strong bread flour in Linlithgow and went on in search of a meal. Whilst passing the rail station I turned in, parked and plugged in. Spent £6.30 with my geriatric rail card and boarded a 350 something ton electric vehicle to Edinburgh Waverley station and arrived there long before I could have driven there and didn’t have to search for any parking.
It was a bit cold but I had a beautiful bracing walk along Princes Street admiring the Castle the electric trams, buses, taxis and motorcycles travelling on that historic thoroughfare that I tore up on the BSA ice bike some 55 odd years ago officer ?. The food part of pointless was the Macd’s veg burger followed by a Greggs coffee further along the road. Another short hike had me boarding another crowded nine carriage monster ev in Haymarket station. I completely forgot to check what the car accumulated while it waited for me. It was, by then too dark to walk round Linlithgow Loch to feed the Robin that fluttered out of a bush last week and perched on my phone as I took a snap of the Old Palace across the loch. If you use “what 3 Words” that Robin strenuously guards the square “///blizzard.laminated.milky”
If you visit him say Hi.
Now, that was pointless ??

I was on holiday there last year. I go quite often, but last year was the first with my ZSEV. The military road on the south coast is a good road to have fun with Sport mode.

It also sharpens the brake response. There's big difference between ECO and Sport brake feel.

I drive along there quite often when out visiting my mother in law

It’s a great drive but the first/highest part of road as you come from Freshwater is not for the feint hearted & I don’t think many people realise just how close you are to the cliff edge

The highest part of road you have a verge on the roads edge, no more than 3ft high & then it’s the sheer drop to the beach/water below

Sadly there have been a few incidents there over the years

Now as I’ve mentioned, since I’ve had the car I’ve only used ECO & Normal mode

Now I’m going to double check later on the screen but when I was just looking at the driving modes, I’m sure I saw a setting for the BHP, I believe Low - Medium - High ( unless I dreamt this lol )

How does this work? Thanks …..

There's no BHP or similar setting in the SE ... don't know about the Trophy. ?‍

Apologies buddy, I got it totally wrong

Just went & checked car

It’s when you go into the Drive Modes & select Custom

Underneath it says

Horsepower - Eco - Normal - Sport

In my head I was thinking it was different BHP settings for each mode ?

My CUSTOM settings are Normal, Sport, Sport (top to bottom).

I had to change the steering settings. In normal I just found it way too light let’s say

Tomorrow I have a free day so going to try out different settings, Sport mode, pedal force to see how it feels

Overall though the car drives brilliantly ?
