VIBRATION ISSUE - hot off the press!

It's a constant hum, like driving on rumble strips and vibration through steering wheel.

Kicks in at 65mph, kicks out around 78mph'ish on mine. Everyone is different.

Ofcourse driving around town, the car is completely fine, love it, very smooth, very quick but get on the motorway and the noise just drones at you.

Strangly enough, there is hum in my Trophy ER as well. Kicks in at around 64 mph (105 kmh). I wonder if its the tires, or somehing else.

Trophy ER has the same rear motor as the X-Power?
Does it? Or is that a rhetorical question siteguru?

If it does, then this is my take on it....this is my opinion, if you don't agree then that's fine?.

MG needed to get the X Power to the UK market

In Summer 2023 they had a good batch and bad batch of rear drive shafts or drive shaft component parts which was shared with the Trophy.

It was pot luck of what you got, good/bad until a new delivery of good components arrived.

This is why some owners don't have the issue but many do.

QC checks were not done until early customers collected their cars and started to complain to their dealers. The component manufacturer was then advised to make changes

New components started to be delivered mid September and then fitted to October 2023 build vehicles and onwards.

I love a good story

No. Mine was delivered end of december. But this model was exported to Europe together with the XPower.
Do you know the build date though? You may have got it in Dec 23...but it may have been sat in a lockup or field.

It does tell you on rhe certificate of conformity, or a sticker under the parcel shelf.

No certificate here. But I will check.

The rear motor of the ER is 180 kW. XPower 170kW.

Rhetorical? Don't know - but I know the ER has a higher power motor vs the LR, and wondered if the XP used the same rear motor (as well as the extra front motor). Info previously suggested the effect may be due to a drive shaft issue on the rear motor, so if the ER and XP use the same rear motor assembly then that could explain why some ER owners may observe the vibration. :)

That could be. But than more ER owners must hear and feel the hum and vibration.

For me its strange that eco removes 80% of the vibes. I go to any other mode and its back. Sports mode the worst. I have had full balance and alignment done, private not by MG. Wheel balance and alignment way out , bad bad from factory. this week MG are doing a road force balance for some reason, ill take that for free , it wont fix it. Ive called them out before hand as a complete waste of my time and a stall tactic. None the less i have to respond to all attempts to fix it, in prep for court.

I had a Road Force balancing and alignment myself as well. Based on that they replaced one tyre (right rear). Right front was also poor but less severe. MG refused to replace that one.

It's been said that it's the rear right driveshaft that is the issue, spookily they changed your rear right tyre?‍♂️

I suspect I will get the same when my car goes into the dealership but I've been told that I have to pay £120 for the dealership to even look at the issue.

If it's a warranty job, I'll get my £120 back

Well, I saw the tire issue myself and it was justified to blame the tyre. It definitely got a lot better. That does not mean there is not something that remains an issue considering the humming noise and the vibration.

Well a strange coincidence, some Trophy owners have started to post on FB today

I have relayed my opinion of the new damper to the dealership today and have asked them to remove it from the car. They have borrowed my XPower, re-torqued the damper, test driven it several times, and have agreed with my assessment. It's horrendous!

The noise and shudder generated are exacerbated, grim and totally unacceptable.

Bear in mind my car was manufactured mid July 2023, so this may appertain to early manufacture only - I don't want to put off other owners from trying the "fix" for themselves.

For me, it's back to MG UK. We're no further forward since my original complaint nearly a year ago, in spite of the dealer's unwaivering support.

So just been contacted by our dealer to say the 'revised' steering damper is now available to order and they are hoping to fit it to our car next Friday.

I spoke to the master tech and he confirmed that new damper is a different part number to the previous damper (which we all know did nothing), although as he hasn't seen one in the flesh yet, he was unable to talk about any differences.

As discussed previously, the best this will do is slightly mask the problem, rather than address the root cause but I'll report back after it's been fitted with my findings anyway.
So my appointment this Friday has been cancelled as apparently, the 'new' damper is now out of stock at MG UK?!

Rebooked for 4th October then got a 300 mile motorway trip on 11th so a good chance to evaluate.

I'm surprised you're allowing them to fit it after @Freeagain21 's experience!

Good Luck with it, but I'm not holding out much hope for you.
