VOTE TESLA SUPERCHARGES with MG5

I tried ours on some new Tesla Super chargers in Kingston John Lewis car park & got an error the car wasn’t compatible, I did ask on the last service if it should work & they said yes. Guess I’ll ask again at its next service in March.

I paid BSM in Beaconsfield £50 for the Tesla fix on delivery for my MG5 FL Trophy in Dec but get errors ‘Electrical Grid abnormal’ charging at Wokingham and Uxbridge superchargers. Looks like they didn’t apply the fix correctly?
That's the same error I get - have BSM resolved it yet? Edit: Yes, by Wokingham - is referring to Earley, which is 'open-to-all'

@Muffler - as I said, I had the fix fitted at Beaconsfield a couple of weeks back and Earley was OK - but just by way of a proper test I tried another Telsa charger yesterday near Luton airport which had previously failed for me and all worked well.

So I'm confident they know what they're doing.

Breaking news... Just booked my 22 plate MG5 in for it's 3rd service and MOT and was told that they are now doing the update and it has been added to the job sheet... 25th of march.

I shall report back.
I had my second service today on my 23 plate SE and they also did the Tesla update that I asked to be done. No charge.👴

Thank you for that post Smokie.
So I have a Question for you at the end of this post.

So NOTE to everyone here there is another thread running much longer than this one which if you type into the search box at the top of this page,
Tesla Supercharger Issue MG5 LR
It will take you to it.
Now in that thread on page 28 #559 and page 30 #583 you will read of
my experiences with Tesla V.4 units, and in particular the ones at Luton airport.

Now Smokie as you have recently visted and used the V4 chargers at Luton have they now been fitted the screens or not.
Les.

@Les burrows I guess you mean the ones at the shopping precinct near MacDonalds.

I suppose it's fair to say I can't give an exact answer - it was very early in the morning (dropping someone off for a 6am flight!) and I was cold and only did a 2 minute test there - however I think they must have had a screen - but if so it was only a small one on the back - nothing like I recall from other public chargers I've used (which are few and far between).

EDIT: Just read the other thread (direct link to your page ) - same screen as you have shown I'd say.

Got around to updating pretty much all of the modules today via SIPS including for Tesla chargers - will try to get over to the Earley charge site in next couple of days to check if all working ok...

Bought high mileage, ex airport shuttle
72 plate pre facelift long range
Tried on Tesla charger, no joy
Got the software update from dealer in Bideford (after a bit of humming and hawing) -paid them £90.
Confirmed Tesla charging works now, on Bristol chargers by Ikea yesterday.

Got over to Earley (Wokingham) site yesterday evening and, following updates I did over the weekend, have confirmed the car now accepts/works with Tesla chargers ok. Only managed charging rate of 35kW though but put that down to the site being completely stacked-out.

What's SIPS??

This post gives an overview of the DIY software/firmware update process:

I just dropped off my Pre-FL 2022 to Chiswick MG for the same MOT & service, did yours get done ok?
Ill move my update to the other Tesla thread as it turns out my MG5 needs a part despite it having an EVCC-02 but a part number of 11313393 missing the 8 on the end which is one of the three needed parts to update.

Service done... having explained what I wanted, I ended up with a note on my invoice saying 'carry out Teslacharger update - quoted £680. No one available to explain how they came to this figure. Last dealer service and mot done.

I'll whip the battery out to confirm the EVCC number, but at that price, I'd never recover what I'd spend on the car to save a few bob at the Tesla chargers.

I suspect I'll decamp to Cleevely EV for my next service as this one seemed to be an exercise in getting me to spend money... 'replace front tyres as they are down to 3mm, replace rear discs/pads due to surface corrosion, tyre gunk requires replaced as out of date'. Neither much changed from last year's summary...

Hi Jackios
Thank you for reporting back and I’m sorry to hear you where unsuccessful in getting the Tesla update done for free. It is most annoying for quite a few members here and still very wrong in my opinion.

So a few questions if you don’t mind.
I agree with you £680 you might take a long time to recover unless you do a lot of miles.
You don’t say what mileage your car has done but as it’s your first MOT it’s 3 years old at least so,
What’s is the mileage ?
As I’m quite surprised it needed new discs and pads and what do these cost? No offence if you would rather not say.
Have you enquired elsewhere to get the update done? Even if not free maybe a lot cheaper.

I myself only use the Tesla SC on long journeys but have noticed even their prices have very slowly increasing by a few pence or so, mainly depending on time slots but they are great to use.

Hi Les,

Current mileage is 23,500, the discs and pads were advisory, quoted at around £700 but as the wear on the pads was minimal, I think it's reflection on the rear brakes not getting much use. The rear tyres also had very little wear from new. I think the fronts have only gone down a millimetre from last year to 3-4 mm and they quoted £158 a tyre, should I wish to let them do them. It's a tactic the local VW used to use on my last car, very convenient but dearer than getting it sorted yourself.

To be fair the Tesla charging was just for completeness, as the journeys I do, don't take me near to many open to all Tesla points, Leeds being the main one and they aren't in a part of Leeds I'm at often. I'll whip the battery out to get the EVCC number and take it from there.

As an aside, I had an MG4 as a courtesy car and while it handled well and looked quite nice, I don't think I could live with the fussy dash and controls, so I've been cured of that. However a vast improvement of the ZS manual they gave last year, where I realised I'd quite forgotten about clutches and gearsticks and the like! :ROFLMAO:

My mileage at the last service was 27 000 miles approximately, no mention of disc corrosion , though they also logged the front tyres at 3mm so still legal. As far as the discs go , I normally find a quiet bit of road, speed up and brake hard a couple of times .
I had an MG3 hybrid as a loan and also found the the dash fussy to downright dangerous . On the motorway, it kept trying to overcorrect and I couldn't find the off switch ..at least not whilst driving :(
