This is a Wiki thread containing a list of improvements to the MG4 suggested by owners.
The first post of Wiki threads is editable by all members at the Established Member rank and higher using the Edit link at the bottom.

Established members who are MG4 owners are invited to edit this post to update the list of improvements. This must be a list of constructive suggestions focussing first on recognised problems.
Members ranked lower than Established Member can reply to the thread to suggest an edit to the wish list.
The suggestions should be ordered by most important first.

MG4 improvement wish list
  1. Better quality/softer materials to be used (on door cards, for example).
  2. A rear roof light for back-seat passengers.
  3. Fully Adaptive Headlights that turn with the steering wheel.
  4. Rain sensitive automatic wipers.
Without wishing to turn the SE into a Trophy, I (@Rolfe) would like to see
  • electrically folding wing mirrors
  • front parking sensors (same as the rear ones)
  • better sound system
  • fix the bug that doesn't let you turn off the automatic central locking
For all models, THE ABILITY TO TURN OFF THE DRLs WHILE THE CAR IS IN PARK, while leaving the car itself - with the HVAC and the entertainment systems - on.

Coulomb's wishes:
  • Fix the USB music player! There needs to be a way to play through a USB full of music sequentially, and remember where the player is at the end of a drive (and don't just start at the beginning of the remembered track, but where it stopped). My other MG (ZS Mark 1) does this just fine.
  • Fix the DAB station selection. I can save favourites, but I can't seem to select one, or scan easily from one favourite to another. With about 50 stations, most of them specialised for things I don't care about (sports, foreign languages...), it's very hard to find a station I want.

  • Dave3005 - alot of these could be fixed in software updates:
  • - OTA updates (actually being used and not just a menu option and still requiring dealer visits)
  • - disable lights on remote heating
  • - option for timer schedule of remote heating like our renault zoe, e.g 7am weekdays.
  • - option to remove Adaptive curve on accelerator and have instant power if desired not delay before full power.
  • - remember all customised settings (or quick profile 1 button)
  • - option to purchase increased power/acceleration would also be nice if power not already at limits of motors on each model (can be toggled if want efficiency instead on some journeys).

1. More intensive research and development of high performance models before selling the vehicle to a paying customer.

2. Better quality/softer materials to be used. (on door cards for example)
May have lready been done on upcoming models.

3. A rear roof light for back-seat passengers.

4. Fully Adaptive Headlights that turn with my wheel.
With this, Countryside living is just easier and safer.

5. Rain sensitive automatic wipers.

You could edit the first post yourself. I edited it instead. I ignored your first suggestion, though, because it's not constructive or specific enough.

9. Ambient Lightning.

    • Not really that fussed, I spent 9 years driving a 2006 Mustang and most of the plastic panels in that were like melted and remolded wheely bins...didn't bother me at all. It pushes the cost up for no real gain imho; MG is a budget brand and stuff like this is where I'd expect to see savings.
  2. A rear roof light for back-seat passengers.
    • Yup, like the grab handles a curious omission which seems to be on most other manufactures cars.
  3. Fully Adaptive Headlights that turn with the steering wheel.
    • Never had these, not fussed really and ditto with the soft touch stuff.
  4. Rain sensitive automatic wipers.
    • A nice to have sure and with the sensor block already being there it seems a curious omission.
  5. Physical Buttons and dials for the HVAC
  6. A button on the steering wheel for the heated wheel
  7. A button on the seat or central console to cycle seat heat settings
  8. A button that I can press (wheel or dash) to disable the so called "safety" features I don't want.

@Rolfe how do you feel about managing the list?
Some less constructive, less specific and less practical ideas like
A button that I can press (wheel or dash) to disable the so called "safety" features I don't want.
and
better sound system
should definitely not be included. At least not without being way more specific.
But the list really needs organising to shuffle the most needed to the top.
We should consider that those that are extreme 'nice to have's should maybe not be included. Instead focus on the aspects which are significant issues and not dilute the list.
Maybe even limit it to 10 or 15 things?

Yes, I'll have a go.

I think we need some of the features split SE/Trophy. I mean it's not reasonable to demand all the Trophy features on an SE, but there are still features it would be reasonable to think could be added to the SE.

We could get a long-list then ask people to vote for the features they personally would prioritise.

a physical start/ stop button
Wireless CarPlay / android auto
Screen going back to what was on before after changing hearing settings
More useful design console (cup holder access etc)

I'm putting my requests here, assuming @Rolfe will curate some of them into the first post:

A physical start stop button instead of the seat operated button.
Speed limiter modes selection to be integrated with cruise control (menu and long press on steering wheel).
1 mph increments on speed limiter.
Ability to disable radar part of ACC.
Front parking sensors and/or camera.
User profiles in order to allow restore of various modes at startup.
Sidelights or something to illuminate a little to the sides (for parking and when pulling out of a junction on pitch black country lanes).
Full lights off capability when in park mode.
Side lights only to come on automatically on starting the car. Dipped on automatically when ready mode entered.

Those features that are already implemented on a Trophy should not be on the list. If people want them, they buy a Trophy.
This list is more about fixing more significant issues. Like no over the air updates.

TROPHY / XPOWER Models :-

  • Rear Courtesy Light (most other brands have this) and LED front courtesy light.
  • Better interior ambient lighting
  • Locking Wheel Nuts for Alloy wheels
  • Wireless Carplay / AA
  • Fix the USB music player to allow albums to show and be remembered rather than just random track each startup.
  • OTA infotainment updates that work (many other brands have this)
  • Paddles behind steering wheel to change Regen modes quickly (most other brands have this)
  • Option for Panoramic Roof
  • Option for upgraded alloy / tyre package
  • A normal Stop / Start button to turn the car on and off rather than the driver seat occupation
  • Easier, customisable individual profiles that can be set at the beginning of each drive which are then remembered (even if they need to be switched on each drive). This should allow things like OPD, LKA, ACC etc to be remembered and then just turned on with one or two switches / buttons - the star buttons & toggles perhaps ?

Is fixing the items in this list not more important than most of the suggestions above?

I'd say what I have added is entirely practical. The button to disable unwanted systems is part of the New Renault 5 specification, go into the menu, create custom driver profile, hit save. Bish Bash Bosh...done. Then at the press of a button it sets the car up to just how you like it, this could also include things like Eco/normal/sport modes etc.

Improvements to the car to me aren't just things on the screen, improvements are doing away with screens and going back to buttons for certain features (e.g. the HVAC) as they weren't problems before and I would argue, with my product safety hat (my job) on...they are now, I certainly wouldn't sign them off if they were put before me.

I think fixing things quickly should be taken as granted if MG want to be a serious player and attract repeat business from current owners.

Your post seemed to want a wish list of improvements / additions to the car for any future facelift model to me ?

Correct. That has to start with improving things that are broken.
Well I think we all know what the big elephant in the room is for this on the Xpower ! I’m sure you don’t want to get into that discussion here though as MG UK don’t want to either.

Current Improvements needed IMO :-
  • 12V battery needs improving
  • LKA too as promised to Which?
  • Ease of turning Driver Aids on/off
  • Apple CarPlay / AA connection improving (too many dropped and very fussy cables)
  • Bluetooth not dropping phone connections every few weeks.
  • calling synced phone contacts via voice control corrected (wrong number dialled)
  • LED interior light needed
  • Custom drive mode should save more (like OPD, ACC, LKA settings.
  • Xpower vibrations eliminated
