Wish list of MG4 improvements

For me it would be screen wash level sensor, auto wipers, wireless phone connection, fog light control on lighting stalk

This probably won't enter the main list, removal of smart learning, the car was better straight after updates, then after a while the car was more like pre update

They won't save disabling safety systems for reasons mentioned before (NCAP) but part of NCAP's rules to come is less reliance on screens for control, more buttons to be integrated again
For me having the fog lamp control stops people putting on the fog lamp illegally as its not meant be used as people do it's to be used only when you can't see a car behind you and it's really foggy not just misty.

Hi, @Stuart Wright
  • Changed the preconditioning threshold to <20° degrees instead of <10° degrees, which greatly improves the charging speed for the LFP battery equipped version.

The ability to change the charging power on the app, instead of messing around inside the car.. even then it often reverts to full power ie 7kW if for any reason the charging is paused eg in octopus Intelligent go mode. This would enable me to elongate the charging period and enjoy cheap electricity for longer.

A lot of good suggestions and comments in this thread that I have just read through,
But I’m going to be very basic in what I would like to see improved in my wife’s MG4 SE and these are.

Definitely a proper on/off switch to bring the car into life, the Bum switch is a disaster in my opinion for a couple of reasons.

It as been mentioned in a few places on this forum about being able to turn the car off in the safety setting ( why it’s called that is beyond me )within the infotainment screen which you can, but as Kithmo #43 as rightly commented after doing this if you then move on the seat there a good chance of the car switching back on but not in ready mode and could quite quickly run down the 12 volt battery if you have not noticed or left the vehicle, as the traction battery does not supply current to the 12volt until the vehicle is in ready mode which is achieved by pressing the brake pedal.

Another good reason for a master on/off switch is when it’s rain or even snowing if you left the car the a while before and had not turned off your windscreen wipers the moment you put any pressure on the drivers seat the wipers will operate and the water or snow on the screen will end up all over you and in the car ( beware ) easy fix is make sure you turn off the wipers when leaving the car.

Just one more so it’s a nice day and the car needs a wash now we all know about placing the wipers into the service mode on many vehicles not just the MG4 to enable you to lift the blades off the screen to clean it so you start to do the job of cleaning the car and somebody decide to get some item from inside the car or one of the kids climbin the car even the dog might jump in and just happen to put pressure onto the drives seat, the wipers will operate and the paint on the arms or the even worse the bonnet is damaged with a very loud bang.

So come on MG put an on off switch in the car please.

My other gripe about the MG4 and the 5 for that matter which I don’t think as been mentioned is the seat belts well not the belts but the the slots or anchors in the seats that you plug the belts into the rears in particular are terrible as they just push into the seat base as you are trying to plug the belt buckle into them.
And in the front they are quite tight between the seat and center console, they just need to be a little longer or higher I should think in the rear all that is needed is a stiff wire type anchors which would work better.

Edit : another unnecessary item in my opinion is the side lights coming on or staying on while the car is pre heating when using the I-Smart from the App.

Some good suggestions there. Guess I'll find out about the seatbelts when mine arrives next week. That's not something unique to the MG though, my Tesla is the same. The belt buckle is low down between the seat and centre console, it takes a bit of effort to engage the thing.

I bought those exact same ones. :)

I only fitted one as the other two holders have the bungee straps fitted for the dogs.
Sorry for laughing but I had the image of your dogs jumping out of the car before being pulled back in by the bungee and the look of surprise on their faces....🤣

I to tried these but with out much success to be honest in either the MG4 or the five still think the solid stalk type would be better so they can’t be pushed into the seat

I'd love MG to adjust ACC so that if you have your indicator on, and you have positive steering input (ie. changing lane) it doesn't reduce your current speed. There have been a number of instances in the week I've owned the car that it felt positively dangerous when overtaking on a motorway and suddenly the car would reduce the cruising speed at a really inconvenient time. I know you can overide this using the accelerator pedal, but it takes a second to react and that's quite distracting.

Ability to retain settings during a short break (say less than one hour). It's really annoying to have to reset all your preferences after just stopping for a couple of minutes to enter a shop.

Ability to draw in the door mirrors whilst moving (useful in very narrow roads to prevent mirror clashes).

Built-in wireless Apple/Android Play.

Still further improvement in LKA and ACC.

The ability for the ISmart app to connect directly to the car rather than via an anonymous server somewhere in the world.

Not really a software thing but a more responsive touch screen.

You can already draw in the door mirrors by tapping down on the adjuster stick, but only at below 10mph.
They'll automatically pop out again when you go faster than that.

Rather than adding a start/stop switch just add the ability to override the seat switch and simply turn the car on by pressing the brake pedal, then turn off again via a short cut on the 'down-swipe' menu rather than going through four presses (car, safety, off, confirm).

Exactly, that's the problem, Try driving through Stiffkey on the Norfolk coast and you will see why I want to have the mirrors in whilst moving faster than 10 mph. Or make the threshold faster, say 25 mph. Do you not find that problem at some villages in Wales as well?

I wasn’t sure I liked this at first but now I love it just jumping in the car heading off, jumping out locking car. So much easier and simple.
