XPower Insurance Renewal Refused

They said it could be a number of things, just bs to be honest. Clean license, full NCB, 50yrs young, but I wasn't surprised.

Hello Chris,

We're really sorry. We won't be able to renew your policy this year

Unfortunately, we can't offer you insurance for your car next year. It means your policy will end on 4th September 2024 at 11:59pm. We're really sorry about this and we wanted you to know about the decision behind it.

Why we can't offer you a renewal quote

Even if you're a very good driver and nothing has changed from last year, we set our premiums based on lots of different factors. These factors can include the increased risk of a claim associated with your vehicle type (even if you're still insuring the same vehicle) or the increased risk of a claim in your area. For example, in some postcodes there's been a dramatic rise in thefts.

When risks like these increase significantly, it becomes difficult to offer affordable cover and means we can no longer offer a price. It doesn't happen very often - but unfortunately, we're sorry that in this case we can't offer you a renewal quote.

You're not being declined insurance

Although we can't give you a price this year, this doesn't mean you've been declined insurance. So if another insurer asks if you've been declined insurance, you can tell them you haven't.

You might still get insurance elsewhere

While we can't offer you a quote this year, this doesn't mean you can't get insurance elsewhere. Insurers' prices are based on their own experiences with customers, so every insurer has a different view of risk.

Remember, you're legally required to have insurance if your car is on the road. We'd recommend you visit some price comparison websites to see what's available from other insurers.

If you do struggle to find insurance elsewhere, the British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA) may be able to help you search for an alternative insurance provider. You can find more information about BIBA at www.biba.org.uk

I got a better deal anyway so not bothered by Hastings inability to insure my car this year.

Saw this article the other day which sounds like another scam, as they can change the insurance rating of a car after it's initial rating has been calculated. They are also adding 2 years of confusion into the mix as the rating systems transition from the old to the new.

Renewals are rarely ever the cheapest option - even though (by law) they're not supposed to prioritise new business with special offers. (i.e. existing customers should be treated the same as new customers).

Admiral were cheapest for me first year, then Aviva Zero the next. Currently I'm with The AA.

So my quotes have come in from confused.com and moneysupermarket - both at £380 which is over £100 cheaper than last year and around £500 cheaper than renewing with Hastings Direct.

Hastings Direct clearly don't want to insure MG4s this year.

Oops - sorry I'm posting in the wrong forum as mines the cheap SE. Mods please feel free to delete my posts if you wish.

Hi gang. Any help / suggestions gratefully received.

I insured my MG4XPower with Hastings last year when the car arrived. It cost me an annual fee of £450. They have just written to say they are not able to offer me a renewal quote and so won't be insuring me going forward.

I've done a quick 'compare the market' and the cheapest quote I've found so far is £700 with a company called quote me happy (never heard of them).

Does anyone else have any suggestions for a reputable cost-effective insurer.

Thanks

Simon

I'm with Quoute Me Happy - £300 last year, gonna be more like £450 this year and I seem to get a better deal through the Meerkats than renewing direct. Hmm. They're Aviva under the covers...

Use all the usual comparison websites. I'm with The AA this year; have been with Admiral (first year - well, <8 months as the end date was tied in with the house insurance) and Aviva Zero (second year).

Hastings Direct - declined
Direct Line - declined....

What is going on? I'm 55, never had an accident, no points - it must be the car. I wonder if this is a general fear of insuring electric vehicles, or is it just this particular mad model?

Insurance is now really expensive, whilst I got my Trophy for £475 in Feb this year BUT for example my house+contents (with out any claims being make made) renewal from £270 last year to £1029!!! I rang them up and they said it's because there is a small tiny brook 90m away and thus have increased the premium. This stream is a tiny brook, you can step across it in one stride but it appear this now warrants a £700+ increase. I tried look elsewhere but the companies all seem the same and charging excessive amounts, so renegotiated to insure the house minus flood damage which brought it down by £200 to £810.
I am dreading next year for both Trophy and house.

Hastings Direct - declined
Direct Line - declined....

Maybe it's @Brettus's fault ;)

Seriously though, have you tried LV?

interesting, I got my renewal from Hastings this week - up from 609 last year to 1032 (but at least they didn't refuse to renew!). Quick meerkat got me 570 with Aviva Premium which I snapped up, might see if there is anything better than that but I doubt it. Funnily enough Aviva was my insurer the previous year and Hastings beat them 12 months ago.

Well knock me down and cover me in Twiglets(1), just had an email from them with a renewal offer fo just £343! Need to check the fine print methinks... but it's just possible they have genuinely "quoted me happy"! :D
