My 4 Trophy stopped charging when I plugged it in and the four charge level indicator lights around the charging socket also stopped working. This was a pain as I could only start charging using the app on my phone. I tried starting the charge from inside the car and it worked, but it didn't like me opening the door to get out any more than I liked spending the night inside the car.

Using the app was the only option, but I had to "start charging" several times before it would accept the command. It just keeps coming up "failed" for the first few attempts. It was booked in with Acorn, Crewe to have a look at it. They kept it all day, no problem, and when I went to collect it I was told theres a sensor somewhere on the charging flap/port area to say the flap is open. This sensor had failed to the car didn't recognise that the door was open and hence wouldn't charge or display the lights.

A new flap has been ordered which should take a week, and fitting that should sort it. I don't know what they do about the colour or maybe I'm misunderstanding and the sensor is part of the charging socket surround, we'll see.

Someone else discussed this elsewhere (I think) when the cover flap wouldn't open at all and was forced then replaced by the dealer/workshop. As I recall it, I think it is a two-piece arrangement with the colour flap purely aesthetic attached over the mechanism of the plate ... but someone more knowledgable will confirm hopefully. Presumably they will use the existing cover ... and surely even MG dealers will manage to get the right colour if not (there aren't many to choose from(!

@DYWLC, if I have understood you correctly, the car could be charged once you had overcome the iSmart issues? Separately, the port lights do not illuminated in any colour when the port flap is open, charging or not?

Were you aware that charging is interrupted if the car car changes from locked to unlocked state but that it resumes for AC after a minute or two?
