I've been trying to find any sort of information on trouble shooting/fixes for the granny plug that you get with the MG4 but not had any luck.

Our plug has worked fine since we got it but one night it randomly stopped charging. The error code appears to be a overcurrent error, I tried unplugging it and then trying again but it gives the same error everytime.

Looking online(including this forum) the only cases like it got fixed by the old switch it off and on again trick but that hasn't worked for me.

I would rather not have to fork out for another one as we don't have a proper wall plug at home yet so was wondering if anyone has any experince or knowledge they can share?

How long have you had it; have you tried to get it replaced under warranty?
You can get them second hand if you only want it until you get a 7kW EVSE

I have an MG Granny Charger. When this happened to me I changed to plugging in the car and then the wall socket rather than the other way around. It never happened again.

Following the correct procedure in the manual for connecting ands disconnecting the granny charger is quite important. Page 145 in the online manual.

That's for the MG5 ... the reference to the port cover is the giveaway. (MG4 only has a cover for the 2 DC pins). ;)

But the MG4 procedure will be largely the same. In my case I plug in whichever is closest at hand (e.g. if I've run the extension lead plug through a window I'll probably plug that in first and switch it on), but I don't turn on the switch on the extension lead until the plug is fitted to the car and the car is locked. :)
