Software update

The latest update is R59 which fixes partially the Bluetooth pairing issues but breaks the car wifi hotspot ( the DNS setting is incorrect) MG UK are aware and a fix is due, but lord knows when. There is a workaround by manually setting the DNS to 8.8.8.8 in your phone, and for all phones that try to connect to the car wifi hotspot.

The permanent "free" Internet connection is great, but might they just switch it off at some point in the future? It's not like there's a way to insist our own SIM card.

I just spoke to Caffyns MG in Ashford Kent, to ask if there was a more up to date software release than R33 on my 23 reg Trophy. Amazingly they asked if there was a fault on the system and I said no, I just want the latest software. The answer was that if there wasn't a fault, they couldn't do an update! Is this normal folks, it seems daft to me!
I was given the same story by my local dealership (Warrington). I booked my XPower in for it's first service next month, requested a software update at the same time but was told if there were no problems (which there aren't) then they would not update the software.
Any advice as to whether invent a problem or not (occasionally I lose Bluetooth with my mobile, but it's no major problem).

Just tell them LKA is a bloody hell (and so you do not use it), BT drops occasionally, the airco is 5 degrees off and acts as an on/off system.

Thanks for the advice.......LKA is a nightmare (and I never use it, but such a hassle to switch it off every time I get into the car!)

Add switch off being hassle. The only lka improvement comes with the latest software. Which isn't a solution, only an improvement (saves you one click tto disable..)

LKA: And again just yesterday......Indicating left to filter-off a fast-moving traffic lane and the steering is trying to pull me back onto the main road. The driver behind must have been cursing me!

The FOMO is strong here.
If it ain't broke don't fix it. Why introduce new problems when you currently have none ?

I've taken my car in again this morning for the software to be corrected after the last time when the update stopped the car being able to stop at 80% charge and the range appeared to be reduced to the SR level.

I've also asked them again to update the infotainment software as it keeps dropping the Bluetooth connection and I get a black screen when the auto lights come on during boot-up. I was still on R24.

Call me cynical but I have suspected in the past they've only done the minimum updates necessary if at all. This morning it seems my suspicions were correct as for the first time I've received warning messages in the iSmart app for power steering, brake system, tyre pressures, airbag and power steering again.

Hi, I suggest that you make a list of the bugs associated with R33, there are plenty and go back to the dealer and ask for them to be fixed, this is what I did. The dealer does not get paid to do software upgrades unless MG agree that one is needed to fix a problem. MG do not issue a list of known problems for this reason otherwise everyone would be at the dealers door asking for a fix.

So for instance you could point to the behaviour of the ACC increment switch which in R33 is link the wrong way round so a slight nudge increases the speed by 5MPH instead of 1MPH, R46 fixes this. Or you could point out that the habit of the car to slow in to corners where it is not necessary to slow is a problem and so on which require a radar software and camera software upgrade.

So make you list of problems that you need fixing and then go back to the MG Dealership and ask them to fix the problems and they can then approach MG for approval if the problem is a software problem requiring an upgrade.

Good luck

The ACC change is not linked to the info version so moving to R46 will not change that. The ACC change is part of SCUK001 which may have been applied. Emphasising the Bluetooth problem seems to worked for some but it appears it depends on the dealer.

Sometimes the updates don't install correctly but appear to. Sometimes the update process say it is finished but it isn't, so updates get missed.

I've had both of these trip up my dealer in the past leading to revisits.

Part of the problem is that the dealer can't check - they depend on the update process working correctly but it is not always reliable and there's no way for them to independently check the versions.

are we sure on that? I had SCUK001 installed as part of a recall back in November, and also have R46 infotainment - ACC is still 5mph per nudge for me
