Say Hello

Hi, I recently joined the forum as I picked up my first EV, an MG4 SE LR, and I'm quite interested in the MG lineup in general, I think they're great value.

I'm also a Software Engineer, so pretty interested in all the tech too.
I've also just joined and will be picking up my MG4 SE LR on Friday. My first EV (excluding two eBikes). Could have had it in grey, black or blue all at the same price. I chose blue for visibility. I originally intended to get the SR with LFP batteries but went with the extra range of the LR with its NMC battery chemistry which only weighs 30Kg more and has the aperture grill shutters (AGS). The LFP vs NMC chemistry differences are interesting. I neglected to check on insurance costs before ordering but fortunately have been pleasantly surprised. Home charger point on order.

Did you choose the NMC battery over the LPF just for the extra range?

Welcome to #teamblue!

Well done for understanding about the winter range and factoring it in before buying. I think that's essential. (I did too, but realised the SR would still cover me in winter.) Too many people bitching about winter range because they didn't do their homework.

You'll also get the benefit of faster charging on DC chargers. Or the disadvantage of having to run out and move your car because it's full before your are, depending on which way look at it!

I was paying my fare on the Corran ferry last week, and the guy collecting the money spontaneously said how much he liked the colour of my car.

Hi

Recently acquired a six month old 2024 HS PHEV Trophy. After testing pretty much every PHEV on the market, settled on this one as it seemed good value and a decent car. Previous car was a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. I did also like the Cupra Formentor PHEV, but wife wasn't keen :(

I'm still getting used to it and it's quirks (like when it pauses at ~50mph when you floor it) but I understand that can be improved my enabling AMT mode.

Another thing, is it possible to change the Apple Carplay/Android Auto widget to something else on the home screen as it seems unnecessary as it activates anyway when you plug in a phone. I can change the other two widgets, but not this one for some reason. Am I missing something?

Thanks

Fergal. ??

That's Edinburgh too. It's covered by all plates starting SK to SO
Maybe they bought from Arnold Clark's?
When we were looking for our current car, an Arnold Clarke dealer told me they have the ability to register their cars all over the UK, so, in theory at least, you could buy a car in Scotland and find it has a London plate.

I saw two SO- reg MG4s in my village in Stockport last week, both with AC plates and it made me wonder.

G'day,

TL : DR I'm Tony, a new XPower owner from downunder. Brixton Blue. Faster than most fast things.

I've been interested in EVs for a long time. They seemed like the future to me. Full of potential (sorry not sorry). After my wife moved into care as a result of serious illness, I decided to consolidate our two ICE cars into one EV. I didn't want a hybrid's extra complexity - they have their place, but not with me.

But most EVs available were tanks, much bigger than the cars they'd replace. Even a Model 3 was too big for one. Blah blah blah China came along. Smaller, cheaper, very nicely featured. I almost bought an Ora. A very nice ride, with plenty of space and cool features. Funky, if polarising looks. BYD Dolphins are still a bit gaudy for me, but certainly well made.

Then I drove an Essence 64 (the upspec model). The Ora made me smile, the MG4 made me go ooh. Trade-in offers were lousy so I advertised the good car, and waited. And waited. While waiting, Ora and MG reduced prices, and reduced them again. The good car got sold. I was back, ready to buy an Essence LR77 - a bit more grunt, a chunk more range. No demo available. 🤬, but the sales guy offered a go in an XPower. Not what I wanted, but why not?

Wow! It was damn quick in Normal, so I tried Sport mode (woohoo!), then a launch, and I swear I saw things I don't believe in [1], all while screaming laughing and loudly swearing [2]. I forced myself to go home and sleep on it, but from my silly grin and drool dribbling down my chin, I think we all knew. I was hooked.

They increased the trade-in on my remaining car, and in the end, changeover was just under what I had been prepared to pay a few months earlier for the Essence 64.

Yeah. I'm happy with that. Oh my, it GOES!

One warranty job coming up (saggy undertray fix). I was told the software's been updated, and it's getting better as I get to know it 🙄 - the biggest bugbear is not retaining settings, but I know that's required for safety stars.

[1] possible exaggeration
[2] not an exaggeration, the sales guy was doing the same 😂

Hi all, just got my MG4 Trophy long range. Wanted an ev for a while, but also wanted the extra range. So far very happy with car, still finding out all the bits and pieces you can do. My only concerns is the charging. On Octopus intelligent with Ohme charge. Trying not to look at smart meter costs, waiting for first bill to confirm I will not have an horrendous bill 🤞. May have to call for help later if I have problems.
