MG4 Software Update Thread

I also meant to add that I was told by the service person on the phone that 5mph increments on the ACC was “just how it is”, yet magically it now is doing 1mph increments.

I completely forgot to ask about data usage. Dangit.
I bought my new ER Trophy 2 weeks ago. It came with R40, but... have since had the dealership to update to R59 to resolve Bluetooth issues (was really after the LKA shortcut). But... I've got the 5mph stepping in ACC & have the slowing on slight bends issue. Do you have any idea what module needs to be at what version to deliver 1mph stepping & resolve the slowing in slight bends issue?

I believe it is update SCUK001 that changes ACC operation (amongst other things). SC means Service Campaign, so it's an update that should be done when the car is presented to the dealer for any service or other warranty work. As it's a service campaign then the dealer should get paid for it by MG.

My MG4 Trophy LR was in for its first service today, £86 for nothing much more than a clean and a software update.

The full update version is SW168-29958-1300R59.

BUT that software update has done amazing things to the LKA, NO MORE jerky movements when the white line is touched, at least at the moment.
So far so good, I will of course be watching it with extreme scrutiny, but it would be great if I didn't have to keep remembering to disable the LKA.

Everything else is fine with my MG4 Trophy LR, its just LKA which bugs most MG drivers.

Is it possible MG boffins have listened to the huge amount of bad press from professional reviewers and ordinary drivers like me?

I'm not aware as yet which other software glitches this update addresses.

Does anyone have a copy of the official document describing SCUK001?

Exactly the same issues on my ER Trophy, new 6 weeks ago - r40, lost Bluetooth once so far, ACC 5mph steps and slowing on bends. Also a bulge in the undertray from new. I put it down to the car having been built over a year ago, according to the Type certificate, so needs updating. Need to book it in to the dealer, I guess.

From my service invoice last year ...

Try taking it to Glyn Hopkins Bedford. That first service becomes £190.

Last time I go there. Bog standard service.

Glad they've made you happy :)

that software version is only for the infotainment system so doesn't affect how LKA works. LKA is in a different module which was updated a while back (so they have done that for you as well as R59) and made quite a difference at the time, I'd be interested if its been updated again but these module versions are hard to identify

I think R59 does give you the easy access button to turn it off though, but also cripples the wifi hotspot

My car had its second inspection yesterday.

I agreed with the mechanic that I wanted ALL updates and would pay for them if necessary.

It seems that all updates have been installed, at least that's what I've noticed:

  • The sign recognition has been improved, not perfect yet, but finally acceptable!
  • New front radar software, so no more braking in curves with ACC and the "shortcut" for TJA is available
  • Adjustment of the air conditioning temperature?! (felt)
  • Better camera images (more contrast)
  • More efficient?! (felt)
  • less delay with Reku 3, roughly comparable to "Adaptive"
  • Fatigue warning is no longer annoying if you look at the speedometer for more than 1 second
  • The digital key finally works for me

According to the developer menu:

T-Box is now "SNAKP23E32" previously "SNAKP18E32"

Assembly P/N is now "11-96-32-8-1" previously "11-67-58-11-1" (so quite a jump)

SW P/N is now "11-83-64-46-1" previously "11-64-30-76-1" (also quite a jump)

FICM-MCU version now "68.4.7.0" previously "68.4.3.0"

Has anyone tried, or does anyone know, if we can downgrade the infotainment firmware. I'm tempted to try out r59 but would only wanna do it in the confidence I could revert back to r46 if I can't live with not being able to drag the HVAC settings from the top using android auto

you can downgrade without any problems, it works just like an upgrade but with the R46 files instead of R59 (logically)

1. Do MG have a record of each cars infotainment software version is?
2. Alternatively does the dealer just have to scan and see what the current version is and assume its kosha?

I am tempted to do an R40-R59 to get the turn off LKA button but don't want to invalidate my warranty for doing a user upgrade of software. I sometimes forget to turn off the LKA and it's unhelpful on my local roads (although not too bad on main roads) and I find that it is too distracting when driving going through the sluggish menus to turn it off.

I doubt they have any idea, I doubt they care either. It’s only a usb upgrade. The warrenty on infotainment is only 3 years,

My Trophy is exactly in the same versions you were prior to the update!

The only difference is I have TBOX-MCU (SNMPK19E32) and TBOX-MPU (SNAKP18E32)

More efficiency (really poor atm) and getting the bloody A/C to blow something at the right temperature would be a dream!

Can't believe it is so effing hard to get the car fixed!

In that case.... I now have an LKA shortcut. Happy days! I had to use a 1TB SSD as I didn't have any flash drives bigger than 32GB and I didn't fancy using a mechanical hard disk. Thank you @haloweenhamster et al.

I was hoping the upgrade would enable the swipe down menu in Android Auto but apparently that isn't a thing yet (or am I missing something?).

I take it was an easy ten min process? I see no reason why it would not work on a usb stick over 1GB it’s about that size.

I couldn't either but I was a little nervous as I was about to do something bold after a glass of wine (while parked on private land). I will take it for a spin in the morning.

Yes, it was a very simple process and very fast although I had a wee moment where I couldn't remember what to do about the HV error. Then I had a vague recollection and put the break pedal down to put it into ready mode. I am so pleased that LKA is so easy to disable now as it really was a fiddle for me and I am a poor multitasker.

I also tried Amazon Music which works but the app is awful so I'll stick to YT Music in Android Auto.

Two things to check tomorrow:

1. I wonder if ACC is any better on bends ands overtaking or if that requires lower level updates. ACC was just a little tweak away from brilliance.
2. I am going to have to trawl the forums and find out how to update the built in sat nav maps now (although I probably won't use them either). I have seen this mentioned before on here.
