MG4 Trophy LR
Hi All,

I got an MG4 Trophy LR last week. I've had issues with charging it when on a schedule from either the charger or the car. The charger I have is a Project EV Apex charger. If I plug the car into the charger and want it to charge straight away it works absolutely fine. The issue I have is my cheap ev tariff runs between 00:00 and 05:00AM. When i plug the car in and a schedule is set for these times the charger shows as charging and the car also shows as charging but on the car it shows the Charging power is 0.0kW. The only way I've found to resolve this issue is to unlock and relock the car once in the above charging state and then all of a sudden it works and charges at 7kW on both the charger and the car. Has anyone else had this? If so please can you share if it was the charger or the car.

I haven't seen any car owners near me complain about this problem. Some of them use cheap chargers without settings and use external timer switches, but they can charge normally even with this.

Only set a charging schedule on either the charger or the car but not both.
Two things to try.
Turn your charger off at the main fuse box for a couple of minutes before switching it back on again. If there is still a problem can you charge the car using a friends, neighbours charger and see if the iSmart app's charging schedule works. If it does there's a problem with your wall charger.

If there is no schedule on the car or the charger it works fine and charges perfectly. In fact even if I set a schedule within an hour or so of plugging the car in that works too.
Thats very similar to mine using a granny charger. Manual charging seems bullet proof - I can do any combination of plugging in, opening, closing and locking of doors, via app or in car or even changing the charge limit mid charge and it just works.

Timed charging has worked OK if I test it by setting the start time for 5 minutes ahead, but I'm not sure it's ever worked for starting in the morning. As I don't really need this feature it's just a curiosity and my testing of it has been rather intermittent.

Thanks mate. I'm testing on another charger today. Will report back later.

I have a very similar situation with my MG4 Trophy LR and a Zappi2 wall charger. Every attempt to charge is becoming a huge frustration. I've tried scheduling only on the Zappi2 without success, then only on the MG4, again without success. I've turned off and on the Zappi2 at the fusebox as suggested, and rebooting the MG4 internal computer, but still when I plug in the charging cable the Zappi2 says 'EV is preventing charging'. If I then use the MG4 phone app to try to start charging, it comes up with a message 'Please plug in charging cable' even though the charging cable is already plugged in! I had an Enyaq before the MG4, and although I much prefer the latter, the Enyaq charging was much more predictable and reliable. Any suggestions welcome.

I've now tested on another charger which I scheduled the charging on the car for 2 hours after I plugged it in. This worked perfect so potentially could be an issue with my charger at home. I've also heard back from MG who have said they can get a firmware for the charging port on my car through MG. I've got that booked in for the end of November to see if that helps at all too. I'll keep trying different bits on my charger to see if I can get it working but assume It wont be fixed until the charging company come out to see it

Does yours only do this when using a schedule or do you get this with all charging?

Silly question perhaps, but just to be sure, are you locking the car after plugging in the charger?

I have a Tesla wall charger and have it set to charge between 9PM through to 3PM.
I tested it yesterday. Plugged in at 4PM when I came back from a long trip and it correctly didn't immediately start to charge.
Checked this morning and yes, started charging at 9PM and finished adding 52kWh around 2AM.
I don't set a schedule on the car itself.
3PM to 9PM is our electricity provider "peak" rates.

Sounds like a charger issue honestly. If you have support or warranty perhaps raise wtith them
Thanks. I've got them coming out on the 11th as its only a month old. I tested it last night. When it went into the messed up mode of saying charging but giving 0.0kw of power out. I stopped charging from the charger and then resumed charging which got it working. Makes me think it is the charger as I did nothing with the car at all to start it

Time the MG in for a service perhaps video the issue to the service station and report its on two chargers. Should be all in warranty.

If they replaced it I would have assumed they found some fault on the charger?

The car is only 3 weeks old. Spoke to MG who said no updates available to it.

The charger got replaced because they've never seen the issue before so assumed it was a faulty charger lol. Shame that's not the case. Makes me wonder if there is an incompatibility between the Project EV Apex 7S and the MG4?
