Anyone wash their car today? ?

What next for Christ sake. You can't mow your own grass or clean your own windows. 🙄🤪
In some countries, that's correct, no motorised mechanical devices (law mowers, drills etc) allowed on Sundays so that residents can have some peace one day of the week. Makes sense, 6 other days to do that kind of work. Some apartment complexes only allow such work between 08:00 and 05:30, only Monday to Friday unless for emergency reasons. Again makes total sense, otherwise the noise never ends: when one resident finishes, another starts. Freedom with responsibility; otherwise go live in the US where anything goes.

Trouble is some folk work 6 days a week.
And the only day free to do the Garden, Wash the car or a bit of DIY is Sunday.
And the same with after 5.30pm it's the only chance they get. If that's the only thing some people have to worry about in Life, is a bit of noise on a Sunday or after 5.30 pm Mon to Fri. They ain't doin to bad in Life. 🙂👍

When it has rained after a dry spell do you notice all the oil residue on the roads making rainbow colours from all the vehicles generally driving around? .............

Also in Winter after gritting the roads nationwide where does all that dirty, grimy, salty grit go ?

take some time off/get someone else to do the work during the other 6 days. Works perfectly well in other countries. Car wash facilities are open 24/7 since they are not directly near residential locations and/or they will have good sound proofing around their perimeter. Sure there will be a few who don't like it but the vast majority benefit from such regulations.

Mmmm, perhaps all your Holiday entitlement is spoken for, some folks are. Perhaps you can't afford to get someone else to do the work. And I'm willing to bet, the "vast majority" really don't give a shit
about such, trivialities. 🤔🙄

Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps......meanwhile the vast majority get some peace and quiet, some maybe on the only day they don't work.

Most of the car washes round my way are withing a couple of hundred metres of houses and have no sound proofing unless chain link or wooden fences are suddenly sound deadening.

I'll stick with washing my own car on my own land and cutting my grass when I have time to do it at the weekend, albeit I don't do it to early or late

Sure, in the UK the same facilities don't exist but they do in quite a few other European countries where they work very well.

But the vast majority of members are UK based.

There is a balance to be had between protecting the environment, bigger battles than washing my car, than turning us into a complete nanny state.

Step to far trying to tell the public when we can do a bit of DIY, certainly between the hours of 9-5

Nothing to do with 'nanny' state, it's all to do with a civilised 'state. The 'battle' is made up of many, many issues to be solved and the 'smaller' ones like preventing carcinogenic materials being washed into the water table are just one but a very important one and very simple to prevent to a great extent.

Smoking bans were considered 'nanny' state but very few now will think that. All about education and forward thinking looking at the big picture. Some countries have taken that route, others are still lagging behind.

Lagging behind or just being more realistic that does not make you less civilised.

The smoking ban was never resisted in my experience and Scotland had it first, there was also quite clearly positive health benefits from it, especially for non smokers

I fail to see the obvious health benefits from me using my electric mower and battery power tools.

As has already been stated there are far worst contaminants going into the water table, especially raw sewage and that's the battles that should be fought, not some punter cutting their grass

Then we might as well scrap other 'trivial' regulations that don't 'affect health' such as all parking regulations, planning regulations etc.

You really have missed the point about improving the quality of life for the majority using freedom with responsibility.

Again I don't think telling people they can't cut their grass or do DIY is the same as planning or parking regulations both of which aren't trivial, especially planning.

You keep trying to make your point by comparing to established more serious rules that have obvious benefits.

Who is going to enforce the grass cutting/ DIY rule?

I live on the edge of farmland, so your rules apply to farmers in their big noisy diesel tractors, are they not allowed to work in the fields for fear of disturbing some entitled minority who demands silence.they can have silence but we will all end up starving!

Here's an idea let's put it to a vote, be a civilised society!

How many people want to be told they can't cut their grass or do DIY at the weekend? I can already guess the answer!

Many did put it to a vote in some continental European countries and guess what? - the regulations were approved. It's quite strictly enforced by the authorities AND the local residents who will report those that flout the regulations. Works very well and in urban areas gives the majority one relatively quiet day per week.
