Gave Jasper a wash again today, was a bit grubby bit nice and shiny again.
A question as only picked up on it today, is the rear wiper missing a cap of some sort?

Well, my ghast is flabbered, Just found out its illegal to wash your car in France!!!! You cannot wet wash either on a public highway , private driveway or well anywhere. This is to stop dirty water which may contain contaminates from entering drains , watercourses, or soakaways whether or not they are contained within your property. You can "dry " wash privately but for a wet wash you have to go to one of the professional car cleaners who have to have holding tanks to keep the waste water which then has to tankered out to be re-cycled. All older style car washing emporiums will be closed or need investment to comply. Did the price go up , you bet it did . Its my sad duty to convey to you that you are now conversing with a criminal, previously ignorant but now intentional. As a by product the price of car shampoo in the shops has dropped as they try to get rid of their stocks.
I am hoping this is a joke that has got out of hand but it has been reported by several respected car magazines and on the news.

That must be a Joke! 🤣 If it's not what a total load of cobblers. 🤪

Nearly right.

These restrictions generally only apply if you wash your car on a public road accessible to other vehicles, or if your garden/parking spot is directly next to a public road or walkway.

Washing your car on a fully private piece of land is not prohibited except during drought periods as long as you ensure the water used to wash the car does not reach a public area.

Any discharge of wastewater, domestic or otherwise, is prohibited on public roads.

For goodness' sakes I hope this does not give loony Labour any more bright ideas under their screw you I mean green agenda.
Really odd as some of the products now are fully bio degradable, the snow foam i use for example is just sugar based .

There are different levels of severity depending on which reports you read , the English ex pat newspapers follow your version . The French versions are more strict and then there are the self accredited experts on Reddit etc who all have their own interpretation of the rules with ,as we have become used to , varying levels of stupidity.🤷‍♂️

The French like their rules and regulations together with paperwork. By the time someone's worked out which department to report you to for washing the car and then worked out if it went into the public or private drain and filled out the paperwork in triplicate and sent a copy to the government department in Paris as well as the local municipal council you'll have either moved or died.
It's like the the rule for carrying breathalysers, you must have two in the car but there's no punishment if you don't. (I believe that's still the case)

The same in Germany and I agree with this regulation. There are many 'washing streets' in Germany which are car washes, both automated and by hand powerwash, usually many booths available and relatively cheap. Used engine oil which is often collected as grease/grime underneath the car is carcinogenic and washing these toxic substances into rainwater drains polluresvthe water table, streams, rivers etc. Sure, EVs don't use engine oil but they pick this stuff up underneath from other cars, so betsbit's washed off in the correct place that can collect and trest it. Freedom with responsibility is the name if the game and with a little effort and compromise that's easy to achieve. Otherwise we would have the situation they have in the US, everyone doing exactly as they please and being the most polluting nation per capita (by a very long way) in the world and of course 'enjoying' at least 2 mass shootings per day.

So you agree, with the rule, you can't wash your own car in your own drive or on the road in front of your own house. Sorry definitely don't agree. You mention underneath the car, how many actually wash underneath there car, not many I bet. I don't and I'm fussy, with me motor. What next for Christ sake. You can't mow your own grass or clean your own windows. 🙄🤪

Yes, I do agree that private vehicles should not be washed where the resultant wash ends up in the rainwater drains. You don;t have to 'wash' the underneath for enough of the wash to end up there. The UK is way, way behind good environmental policy. How's the raw sewage in many rives and coastal beaches as an example?

What's wrong with driving a car a few minutes to good facilities that have professional quality power washes, water supplies for buckt & sponge, vacuum cleaners etc, etc? At the same time you won;t be washing used engine oil residue into public drains.

When it has rained after a dry spell do you notice all the oil residue on the roads making rainbow colours from all the vehicles generally driving around?

Where does this go?

Cleaning your car with modern bio degradable products to remove traffic film that will partly wash off in the rain anyway and is generally spread all around the roadside is no harm at all.

Not sure what car washes are like in Cyprus but a large portion of the UK ones are pretty shady and I do a far better job myself.
I would also wager the most are just letting the waste water run off into main drains

Cyprus doesn't have any regulations on this subject which is one of the negatives living here, still a long way to go environmentally. In the UK maybe but in countries like Germany, the waste is strictly stored and then processed. It's normal there and no one even thinks about it. Lots to learn from such countries with regards to the environment, a shame some others have their heads buried in very selfish and short term thinking sand.
