Highest mileage MG4 owner

Sorry, just seen this as it’s the first time I’ve checked in for a while, my mileage since September is about half what I was doing previously so slowed down quite a bit, I’m on 96k now & still feels very solid, however I’ve just ended up buying an Xpower which I’m collecting Saturday😄 so not sure I’ll hit that 100k!
96k Miles? MG4? how has it held up, please tell us more.

Yeah, it’s a tango trophy I’ve had since Nov 22 doing school transport, it’s held up very, very well, I had the early cars leaky breather problem on day 1 which was changed to the revised version very swiftly, I’ve since changed the diff oil roughly every 20kish as preventative maintenance (on the diff thread).

I changed discs & pads all round recently (they weren’t even half worn really but very scabby (especially the rears & I'm conscious to do a few hard stops weekly) I couldn’t have any silly taxi MOT fails so for me were worth doing.

It hasn’t seen an MG dealer since 45k where I think the SOH was 98% still from memory & I’ve still not noticed any loss of range at all, I’d guess it’s still well into the 90’s if measured, it’s been charged to 100% most of its life but never kept there & probably only seen a rapid charger 4 or 5 times.

The OE Conti tyres I found awful, so were changed the first month to Crossclimate 2’s which I got around 30k out of I think & since then its now on its second set of Vector Gen 3’s with even better wear, I wouldn’t use anything else apart from these 2 now, both night & day better even In warmer weather & no notable loss of range from the Conti’s.

It had its last MOT at 91k with not a single advisory, all suspension etc. is original & it still drives very well compared to a new trophy I’ve driven recently, I didn’t notice any difference & I’m usually very sensitive to such things 😄.

I replaced the 12V battery as preventative maintenance in the summer holidays around August time (never had a problem however).

I’ve read a couple of complaints about seats etc. but I’ve never had any problems, mine genuinely look like it’s done 20k & the passenger literally looks new still as does the rest of the interior really.

It’s taken, lots of northern England / Scottish Borders snow / B roads / floods, you name it in its stride & hasn’t had the easiest of lives on the whole although I think I’m quite mechanically sympathetic 😄, it really has been fantastic, here’s hoping the Xpower is just as reliable!

It still looks very fresh for the mileage too I think but it’s only been washed by me & I’ve tried to look after it, a few stonechips always touched in etc.

First & last pics were at 91k! with the other 3 at various points of his life .😄

Sorry for the rambling!

Out of curiosity, how did the interior hold up, after 96k as a taxi. As a few have said the interior is quite fragile and easily scratched. 🙂

Great write up and good luck with your Xpower pickup , will you be doing about the same mileage in it ?
Thanks, I’m only doing around x2 80 mile stints now morning & afternoon so around 160ish miles daily vs around 300 a day the bulk of the trophy mileage was (it would have been over 100k by now easy), I’d always put off the Xpower doing that daily but for the foreseeable it should be shorter & I’m back in the house 10-2:30ish between schools to charge if needs be so range won’t be a problem 👍.

Great write up and good to hear how well it has done.

Re the XPower... that's surely going to be fastest accelerating taxi in the UK, isn't it :) :)
Haha, I’d bet a few quid it might be 😄👍

I can take some pics if it interests anyone once it’s a bit cleaner 😄, but it’s held up very well, I have read a few complaints but my drivers seat looks like it’s done 20k & the passenger honestly looks new, it’s barely been sat in, in all honesty.

99% of the time it’s just 1 kid in the rear left I take to school, I think the rest has probably only been sat in a few times so not the usual abuse a normal taxi would get I’m afraid, it probably wouldn’t fair as well 😂.

Good to hear your update spence, nearly 100k now, wow ! Interesting that you say you couldn't notice any difference between a much lower mileage one and yours, this is a major advantage of EV's IMO, the simple turbine smooth power unit is kind to the rest of the car I think.

An ICE's pistons would have been rattling up and down billions of times in that mileage, I think that's why ICE cars usually sound and feel like their mileage and EV's really don't.

Enjoy the xpower, do let us know the vibe level on the latest ones ;)

Morning Macadoodle, hope you're well.

Yeah, due to sheer laziness more than anything else I never got around to doing your breather mod in the end 😄.

I completely agree & even down to the tyre wear as you say they’re so linear & smooth. As I’m soo use to mine on 17s I noticed the ride was ever soo slightly more crashy on the newer 18s but apart from that it was nice to know mine hadn’t aged too badly.

It’s actually one of the early cars I’ve ended up getting so that’s my only worry 😅, it’s only done 1500 miles tho & as new & a steal at over £10k less than I paid for the trophy new! It’s done its job for me but unfortunately as expected the resale value isn't great.

I’ll most likely be changing the tyres to all seasons so hopefully that will sort anything. out if there is anything there……..hopefully!

Cheers

Tyre wear seems exceptionally harsh on my 4 Trophy LR, now only 8500 miles on the clock and tyres not looking great, I'd guess 60% + or so worn.
How many sets of tyres have you gone through Salty? what sort of milage per set?

Only had my X Power about 4 months, from new. Done about 2500 miles, mostly local, but quite rapid 😉 driving. So tyres are fine. (So far) 🙂👍

The original Continental tyres on my Trophy are at 31k miles. I think they'll do another 4k so not bad at all.

If your original tyre is the Bridgestone Turanza T005 EV it may look like excessive wear but they started life with only 6mm instead of 8mm. Bridgestone says that they’re less noisy that way. Which is true to an extent, in that mud tyres are noisier than slicks, but I’m not convinced 6mm and 8mm make a difference on anything other than a fully sealed and smooth test road.

Beyond that, if they are the Turanza, I wouldn’t be too surprised if it is indeed wear. The Turanza has never lasted for my driving style. I don’t hoon, but somehow we just always disagree.

Impressive! I searched online for MG front pads last weekend and only found one UK supplier, price £260 a set but if they last nearly 90k miles then good 😁.
Have you found a maintenance instruction manual for the MG4?

I'll start another thread, I keep my 4 on highest regent, it's obvious that is adding to tyre wear.

Wow, I'm not too hard a driver, I leave my 4 trophy LR on highest regeneration brakeing, I've always felt that must have a significant effect on tyre wear.

Regeneration setting will have virtually nil effect on tyre wear - it's the amount of acceleration that kills your tyres so go easy with the power 😉
