New Cyberster Owner - Drive to Switzerland

In my view ABRP is a must. Linked to a Bluetooth OBD2 I get real time range, charging locations with stall availability. All add up to less stress as I know where to stop or if I can keep going.
I read about that, but the article I saw also had a big security warning that OBDs are insecure and people can unlock the car with ease and gain entry, which immediately put me off.

How do they work? How do you hook them up to the car and to ABRP?

You plug them into the OBD2 port (just under the steering wheel) and then register for ABRP.

Then in the app register, set your car as the MG4 Long Range, and tell ABRP you want live data.

Then you’ll get realtime info in the app.

I connect my phone to CarPlay but then launch the ABRP app separately on my phone. That gives me Google maps in the car and a quick glance at the expected battery levels on my phone, without paying.

When you get out of the car, just pull the OBD2 device out of the car and stick it in the glovebox as you’ll only need it for longer journeys

Thanks for the info. I'll keep it in mind when I get my car. Kind of a shame the the built in nav doesn't do this stuff already.

@Cyberella - that’s an impressive range on the Trophy, at 70mph speeds I can only manage about 180miles @ 70mph in my GT on 100%>10% battery.

You’re only about 45 mins away from me, maybe we can do a comparison against them on range at some point (same route, same speeds, etc) to see how the cars actually compare

Isn't the range of the GT supposed to be 270 miles or so? I know WLTP is only valid in dreams and delusions, but 270 to 189 is a heck of a difference.

The WLTP test cycle has an overall average speed of only 33mph, with no heating on, over 4 phases with average speeds of:
  1. Low: 16mph
  2. Medium: 28mph
  3. High: 38mph
  4. Extra High: 59mph
Normal driving at speeds of around 50-70mph in cold conditions will never get anywhere near the WLTP range.

Only GreenNCAP do realistic range and efficiency testing - see https://www.greenncap.com/assessments/

In their testing of the MG4, efficiency ranged from 1.8 mi/kWh in very cold conditions up to 3.8 mi/kWh doing a warm-started WLTP cycle. GreenNCAP's BAB130 Highway test is a good measure of UK motorway driving range.

Sounds like WLTP is about as useful as a chocolate teapot. At best misleading if not an outright scam. Who drives at 16mph?

In my experience no built in maps are any good.

They are an example of how behind the car industry is in innovation, the same way some traditional manufacturers were still installing CD players.

CarPlay and android auto is so much better.

The only exception is Tesla but they only show their chargers and block CarPlay (they did the last time I drove one) so you are stuck.
