MG4 Software Update Thread

Old and new software really makes a difference. I was 'lucky' to get a Trophy LR v1 from late 2023 as a replacement car today. It was on R46, but it had no OPD, old maps, no LKA updates, a faulty charge settings as it just went to 100% etc....

Boy, did this thing drive differently compared to my ER with the latest updates!
LKA was rough and flawed. Indicator on and still steering corrections popped up. ACC was tough on brakes when closing in. Steering set in sports mode seemed heavier but less direct (17 inch continentals). Smoothness of adaptive regen was hardly better compared to level 3. Heating had no idea of the temperature in the car....
Go and get the latest updates and judge again.

There were more differences. But they are related to the battery for sure. When I brought my ER to the dealer, energy consumption dropped down from the max after about 3kms. It was - 3 degrees at that moment.
Leaving the dealer with the 64 kWh MG4 trophy, it took me more than 10 kms before the energy consumption started to fall. At 13% it started to reduce power! I had to floor it to safely overtake a truck.... The ER starts to reduce power only at around 5%, and much less so.

I'll never have another MG4 Trophy. Never. Everytime I get into the car I have to turn a few things in the menu OFF and a couple ON. Lane assist, Front Collision, Street Sign Recognition, I like these to be turned OFF as I drive the car, Not the software. I wish that you could save the settings that you turn off and on, would make life so much easier. Next year I'll go back to Tesla or BMW - they are just so much easier. I'll never touch an MG4 again. Guess nostalgia got me at the dealership as I did own 2 MGBGT's in the 70's & 80's. Nice site and lot's of information, sorry for the rant...
Interesting first post.

Hi guys,. I am looking at picking my car up this weekend (What have I done?) what is the Latest Software that this should be running ( I expect it should be the latest if it is currently at the MG Dealership?)

I will be on the telephone tomorrow to insist it has all the latest updates and SC077 installed before I come and inspect it / test drive it Saturday and complete the purchase paperwork

Assuming it's a trophy the fcim latest update is R63 I think.

The infotainment version for your car is currently R63, but your vehicle contains around 20 other ECUs that manage various functions, from battery management to traction control or steering assistance. SC077 is not an infotainment update; it’s an update to some of these ECUs. Applying these updates improve the car’s overall behaviour. There is no direct way to tell if it has been installed, at least not from the infotainment.

Here is a picture showing the ECUs updated, which require “SIPS”, a dedicated software from SAIC, as well as a proprietary OBD dongle.

Well we tend to just leave LKA etc on all the time - you only really feel it if there are patterns in the tarmac of the road that I think it interprets as a line, but generally it is fine. The temp is still wrong on the AC ie need to run it at 27/28 to get 22/23 but our first trip ever in it was to the Netherlands and back and we had zero issues apart from it warning me of icy roads constantly when it was 9degC

Sounds like SC077 has been carried-out by the selling dealer but not the A/C update, which was corrected a while back. I’d take it back and complain that it’s not fit for purpose and demand they apply the update.

After the SC077 update, the one and only thing I am still waiting for is a fix for the aggressive ACC.. which remains to be a problem even after the update. I don't think there's any progress made by MG on this one yet.

If this one would be fixed, it would make the car way better imo. Let's see how long this one will take 😅

I find the ACC much improved with SC077 honestly, are you sure they did the update properly? Maybe your front radar is out of calibration and the car has to brake too late?

Hmm for me nothing has changed, no difference before and after the update.. Lane assist is much improved and the auto steering is as well really nice now. How can I check if they applied the update correctly for the ACC?

They as well calibrated the radar in January, but it does not seem like it solved my issue..
Tbh I don't know what to do now to resolve this issue, any advice?

I had the SC077 update last Thursday and drove 180 miles to Cardiff on Friday and back again today. I found the ACC very much better than it used to be. It used to slow down and speed up very aggressively and now it changes speed much more progressively. My wife slept through it on Friday whereas previously she'd have asked me to tun it off. I also left LKA on all the time and it behaved well. It just nudged gently when I forgot to indicate when changing lanes. It was so nice to just get in the car and drive it with no pre-flight adjustments!

It’s subjective, but I definitely felt a substantial difference after applying SC077, and Wifey noticed it too.

Are you sure the update was actually carried out?
The dealer showed me a list of what they did with the car and this SC077 update was on there. I also do notice that my LKA is much more improved and 'softer' than before. I just now start to believe that I miss some updates, because I seem to be the only one still experiencing those ACC problems..

They updated my car to R63 in january and did some radar calibrations and this thursday they applied the SC077 update. I don't know if I can resolve this issue. Maybe call the dealer again to ask?

You are not the only one. SC077 hugely improved LKAand now I don't bother to disable it but like you ACC is still a bit like a learner driver with overly aggressive breaking and acceleration.

I do not not trust my local dealer at all so I'm going to try elsewhere and get a front radar calibration done when I have time to spare.

If you do take yours back to your dealer and they manage to improve ACC i would very much appreciate knowing what the underlying cause was.

When adjusting ACC target speed, does a single tap up of the left joystick give 1 mph increments or 5 mph? If 5 mph then your car is missing the ACC update.
