Speeding. ?☹

This was 2005. I didn't have dash cam. I didn't have satnav and my phone didn't have a camera!

Yeah, day by day, week by week, things are getting better.

There was a time when progress was very slow but things are much better. I'm walking better now but speed is an issue.

Whether I will ever walk as quick as I did before, IDK.

I have a solicitor putting a case together, "no win no fee", but whether the establishment will accept liability is another matter. I may get nothing.

But getting better is my main focus.

I'm still having physio to get full movement back in the joint.

The solicitor may arrange an assessment to see if anything can be done to progress things.

Yes, very rare, especially these days. When I was learning to drive (a long long time ago) there was a section of single dual carriageway around Hurn airport - my Dad would always tell me it's 70mph here, so keep up the speed - my Mum, less so!!

I'm afraid I got caught doing 35 on a dual carriageway outside Blackpool Airport years ago.

The road was a 40, but changed to a 30, then there were no more speed signs, as the lampost rule kicks in. Last time I went there, they had put some 30 signs up. Must have been some complaints.

This was in my Skoda, so must have been soon after I got it in 2002.

I had to do a speed awareness course. But boy was it scary.

I'm sure they wouldn't pull a stunt like that again. I complained about their tactics.

They introduced this very harsh-talking female driving instructor who made us all instantly very nervous. Right, I'm going to check all your cars are road worthy and that you have adequate insurance, then we will be going out in groups. There will be me and the driver of each car, plus two other drivers in the back. Each driver will go out with me before today's session and you will be assessed by me. Then you will have the speed awareness course and then you will each go out with me again, where you will be assessed once more. If you do not show sufficient signs of improvement, you will have failed. You will not be entitled to a refund of the £120 fee (in 2002, remember...) and you will receive the points on your licence.

Our jaws dropped.

She then bragged about how she has never stalled a vehicle in her life, even one she had never driven before. "I have such mechanical sympathy with a vehicle that I can easily drive away in one I have never driven before without fear of stalling."

Driving instructors usually try and put you at your ease, this person did the exact opposite! I have never seen anything like it, before or since.

I was really nervous on both drives, which really doesn't help.

I believe 2 people failed. Lots of them said they would put in complaints, but I never heard how it went. I never heard how my complaint went, despite trying to follow it up.

But she did get her comeuppance.

Someone who had turned up in a Landie invited her to drive it round the car park.

She stalled it.

A friend (yes, honest) went on one of those courses. Apparently they were all asked questions and made to answer in front of each other. They were told about the dangers of pedestrian injury and how much further it takes to stop at higher speeds. Then she was asked "if a child ran out in the road and you were doing 30mph, rather than 20mph, would you be able to stop in time"? Her technically correct answer of "well that depends how close to the car the child was, when they ran out" didn't go down well. She still passed though!
