charging

A charging station, also called an EV charger or electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), is a piece of equipment that supplies electrical power for charging plug-in electric vehicles (including hybrids, neighborhood electric vehicles, trucks, buses, and others).
Although batteries can only be charged with DC power, most electric vehicles have an onboard AC-to-DC converter that allows them to be plugged into a standard household AC electrical receptacle. Inexpensive low-power public charging stations will also provide AC power, known as "AC charging stations". To facilitate higher power charging, which requires much larger AC-to-DC converters, the converter is built into the charging station instead of the vehicle, and the station supplies already-converted DC power directly to the vehicle, bypassing the vehicle's onboard converter. These are known as "DC charging stations". Most fully electric car models can accept both AC and DC power.
Charging stations provide connectors that conform to a variety of standards. DC charging stations are commonly equipped with multiple connectors to be able to supply a wide variety of vehicles.
Public charging stations are typically found street-side or at retail shopping centers, government facilities, and other parking areas.

MG4 Low Charging speed compared to friends EV

Hi all, I got an MG4 in October and have been enjoying it (despite a few touch and go situations when charging apps aren’t playing ball). I have recently started a new job which has a free charging point however for some reason my MG4 is capped at 3.2-3.3kW and can never go higher when...

MG ZS EV - MG guidance for charging in Winter months

This is from MGs EU website from 2021, so probably still valid for most other models including mk2. So far this is the only 'official' guidance from MG I have come across, particularly whether or not to charge the car to 100%. https://news.mgmotor.eu/mg-winter-tips-for-electric-motorists/...

    Charging losses

I recently upgraded my MG5 from a 22 plate to a 24 plate FL. Now I have the app I have noticed that when charging with a 10 amp that should be pulling 2.3 kW at least, the app tells me it is charging at 1.6 kW. Surely there is not a 25% efficiency loss, or is there?

    A positive charging story!

Hi all Had a great trip back home today, from Worcester to Maidenhead, along the A46 and M40. We have family in Worcester, so have done this several times over the past 14 months since we’ve had the MG4. One of the family has a home charger, so the usual pattern is to zip up the M40, sticking...

Charging cable won’t lock after using manual release - MG5 I had to use the manual charger release cable (under the plastic bonnet cover) when a public charger wouldn’t stop charging. Wireless charging using the 12V/120W outlet in the trunk

Hi, I'm not taking delivery of my Cyberster GT until March 1st, but since the front USB A and C sockets are only providing 5V/1,5A I was wondering if it is possible to plug a more powerful adapter into the 12V/120W socket in the trunk and run a wire into the cabin to a wireless charger - maybe...
