charging

A charging station, also called an EV charger or electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), is a piece of equipment that supplies electrical power for charging plug-in electric vehicles (including hybrids, neighborhood electric vehicles, trucks, buses, and others).
Although batteries can only be charged with DC power, most electric vehicles have an onboard AC-to-DC converter that allows them to be plugged into a standard household AC electrical receptacle. Inexpensive low-power public charging stations will also provide AC power, known as "AC charging stations". To facilitate higher power charging, which requires much larger AC-to-DC converters, the converter is built into the charging station instead of the vehicle, and the station supplies already-converted DC power directly to the vehicle, bypassing the vehicle's onboard converter. These are known as "DC charging stations". Most fully electric car models can accept both AC and DC power.
Charging stations provide connectors that conform to a variety of standards. DC charging stations are commonly equipped with multiple connectors to be able to supply a wide variety of vehicles.
Public charging stations are typically found street-side or at retail shopping centers, government facilities, and other parking areas.

Did The MG4 just kill My Charger?

So. I have a Project EV charger, has been installed since August 2021. Has charged my MG5 for the past few years with no bother. Picked up an MG4 this week. Leaving the trickle charger outdoors overnight/in bad weather.

Recently got an MG5 and for a variety of reasons (cost, old house wiring needing upgrade) we're going to hold off investing in a 7kW external charger. Instead we've gotten an electrician to install a regular weather-sealed 13A socket outside that we can plug the trickle charger into so we...

AC charging ramping up and down?

I’ve been doing a lot of miles over the last few days (Christmas visits to relatives all over the country) so have been charging the car most nights and often a motorway services rapid charge during the day. Is my MG4 miles/kWh trying to gaslight me?

I know the mi/kWh in winter should be worse. But since my last charge to about 80%, it estimated about 3.4 miÔ/kWh and I had covered about 50 miles and it was about 38%. I then charged to about 86%. Just didn’t sound right to me so I broke out the calculator. Ok so I charged with 29kWh and...

    Standing Charge Proposed Changes

Not sure if I like the sound of this. If based on kW used it could mean increases in our costs for charging from home. One thing I am sure of is that changes of this type usually have the opposite effect to intended and expect companies to increase charges overall under the guise of savings for...

    Domestic charger location?

Just wondering ( apologies if this is a duplicated query). - where is your domestic charger located, in garage or outdoors ( or elsewhere?) . 12 volt Battery charging

Hi all, I like to keep the 12 volt battery in any vehicle I have maintained. There doesn’t seem to be a really accessible grounding point in the boot of the Hybrid+ (apart from the negative of the battery, which is generally considered safer to avoid), does anyone know if the battery can be...

    Charging to 100% occasionally ?

I have only done 1500km in my new MG4 and I am still learning. I had mentally decided that it was best to restrict all charging to 80% and operate within the 20%-80% range. However, an EV dealer (not MG) suggested that it was essential to charge to 100% occasionally. That was to ensure all the...
