A NOT SO short update on our British Gas Hive EV charger installation.

It gets better (if that is possible), the HIVE changer is charging my ZS this evening at 18:30 when scheduled for off-peak 00;00-05:00 and no schedule set in the car. !

Pass the meds doc please !
Jeez, you have a LOT more patience than me for sure, they would have it sorted immediately or refund or small claims court, this is ridiculous.

I take my hat off to you, I wish my customers were all as patient at times. :)

No point in getting up tight, issues don’t get resolved with anger ! ☹️

Very true, they don’t get resolved by being walked all over either?

My take, they would have done the install and if it was not working correctly they would have been given one chance to sort, if that failed it would have been refund, court or both. Not angry just standing my ground and not being taken for a ride.

No one is walking all over anyone John ?. I need to fully understand what the issue could be before I call BG again with their daily wake-up alarm call!!!
I have just put the plug back in the charger. Removed schedule, I’d previous set from both iSmart and the ZS, they don’t sync too well.
Tripped the supply on the charger and waited.
Removed the Hive app from my iPhone, rebooted the phone and reinstated the Hive app.

Plugged in the car and locked it. Hive app is now showing scheduled, as below. We shall see what has happened tomorrow morning. ?.

A refund or court action at this moment will not solve my home charging issues, but it may come to that.
But for now we wait and ?.
Sleep tight MaGgie ? LOL.

NO!!!!!!
Scheduling on the Hive just got overridden, not immediately, so I think it’s something to do with the SmartCharge Saver coding.

Set scheduling in the ZS and will see what happens.

Try turning the Hive charger off at the mains and counting ten before turning back on again. I have to do this with my Zappi occasionally when it misbehaves.

Yes I’ve done that thank you Ian, maybe 1/2 dozen times. Called HIVE this morning and they have just completed a remote hard reset. See goes it works tonight. ??

Sorry but youre really vulnerable to Hive and their wallbox system. They use GPRS which runs on 2G and 3G mobile network and from what I can see, thats being switched off this year by Vodafone and EE. Looking at the Hiv box it seems to be a relatively dumb unit that you cant's set your own parameters on like charge times, current etc. On face value looking at the website, I would suggest it's avoided at all costs unless Hive have a solution to the mess thats approaching.

Far from dumb, You can set your own schedules/time periods and has an intelligent low demand charge setting with unit price reduction (in beta), together with graphs showing cost and consumption over time.
I think it’s good, just needs to work, and I would say still one to be considered rather than avoided. I don’t see the signal being an issue in the future, it wouldn’t have been designed without future proofing , would it ? ?

But is that set in the wallbox or back at the Hive server?

Have a look on line about GPRS which Hive uses and the 2G and 3G networks. I may be wrong on this, I havent had time to fully research it. I know the 2G and 3G networks are being shut down, our alarm system used GPRS at my shop and that stopped working 4 months ago, I updated the data module with a 4G unit to restore operation.

So I guess the Hive is Hey Google intelligent, rather than Siri. I’m sure the wireless card will be updatable.

You are not wrong. Hive uses GPRS and this will be switched off in the UK on most networks by the end of 2025.

\Well thats good then for sure, many devices dont have replaceable radio modem cards.

British Gas, EV Hive support confirm that they recognise there is a software issue, and if not resolved report back in two weeks.

In my diary : 19th July phone Hive !!

Helped daughter install a Hive central heating controller.

Based on my experience with her Hive, I'm glad I opted for a Drayton Wiser for myself. Only a few small problems over the past 3 years and the few times I've needed it, the support has been exemplary.

British Gas are horrendous, they couldnt organise a party in a brewery.
Are you trying to tell us that they've IMPROVED?
