Apple CarPlay

Really?! The USB-C port doesn’t work? Why ever not? (Rhetorical question - I’m not holding you responsible 😂)

Going wireless means having to spend £70 on a gizmo just because MG can’t make a port that works! F*** that!
The usb-c port only works for charging, and it works with a usb stick with music on it (although that also has some strange user interface issues). But yeah it won’t work for CarPlay (and I would assume android auto).

The cost is annoying, I agree, although some people report great result from cheaper aliexpress items.

I had the same issue. Purchased this from Alixpress and haven’t had a problem since.! Also, set up for a 40 sec delay to allow everything on the car to do its thing. Worth every penny and the time to set it up.

Just found this amazing item on AliExpress. Check it out! £26.86 | Wireless Carplay Adapter Android Auto Wireless Smart Dongle 2in1 For Volvo Benz Audi Kia Hyundai VW Mazda Cadillac MG Peugeot

It claims to be both when I follow the link. I spend money on a Quadlock CarPlay Dongle, because it has a short wire connection which allows me to stick it up under the shelf and out of sight with some 3M tape. But the settings menu looks similar to some other dongles so underneath the plastic a lot of them appear to be the same. The Quadlock also has another usb-a out for power, although I haven’t had to use that yet.

I have a little dongle via amazon - it was about £30 - works almost all the time. I'll dig out the link (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CZLFRSL6)
I have puchased the same and it works really well. Easy to set up and set a delay and works reliably. Very unobtrusive in the USB-A slot.

Thanks for recommending it, it makes things much easier.

I have the IPhone 16 pro and due to the connection issues ive had (as per this thread) with my old iPhone 14 Pro Max i have gone back using my Carlink 5 wireless dongle. During the repairing/set-up i updated the Carlink firmware and increased the delay time from 20s to 40s and so far so good.
Since reconnecting my wireless Carlink 5 dongle, Apple CarPlay has been working fine. This is the first time i have had a steady connection from my iPhone to the MG4 (wireless or cable) since purchasing the car a year ago.

Of course, now it means I’ll have to rely on the car’s almost useless wireless charging pad 😂
Whilst my car doesn't have wireless charging anyway, I've plugged a wireless AA device into the USB A port and fitted a USB charger device into the 12V port - my phone charges that way when I want to. :)

There is still the USB C port for plug-in charging.
Indeed ... although it certainly isn't USB C specification regarding charge rate. Maybe not a problem for older phones, but most newer phones tend to need a more hefty power source. Keeping the screen off helps of course. :)
