Boot won't lock

The boss just got home, used the fob button to unlock the boot and now it won't lock, I've tried shutting it with it unlocked and locked makes no difference, might even have been like this all along as we haven't needed it much, rung dealer no one in service so have to wait til Monday.

Any ideas?

Boot is designed to open if you have keys on you, even if the car is locked. Try locking car, take keys inside, leave them there then go outside and try to open boot. If it’s locked then working as designed, if unlocked, proceed to dealer

Thanks rob I am a dumb wassaname, I just checked and it's locked, but no one told us, and when I rang the dealer they though it was a fault, which is very worrying.

Wait until you change back to a car without keyless entry. You'll constantly forget to press the lock and unlock key. Ask me how I know that.

I'm not keen on all this automation tbh, give me knobs, buttons, and switches with a proper key.

If I lock the car I want to be confident it is locked.

All very well until your old fashioned key parts company with its fob! I can tell you that the key is not able to be repaired and a new fob assembly is £50. Now I like my button start every much!

I can confidently state I have never had a key fall out of its fob since whenever they first appeared and I have had 11 motorhomes and several cars in that time, not to mention a few work vans, however, the key has already fallen out of this "keyless) fob.

For that money it's worth a try, I just ordered one as the other key will never get used unless one fails.

First order from them for me.

The dealer is supposed to ring at 08:30, I wonder if they will, I need to aks about leaving the car for 6 weeks and see if they can offer any advice, they have plenty of time to find out.

As I suspected they didn't ring so I just rang them.

Thanks for that tip Rob it just arrived, and works fine, it is a bit of a struggle to get it on but NO WAY is that silly MG apology for a key going to fall out.
