Today I charged my car at tesco I had to keep locking and unlocking the car to check the charge, I was there for a hour and it put 12 miles on my clock, and had to restart the charge again after unlocking and locking again, is his normal, very frustrating, thankso

I charged at a Tesco this morning. Added 6.8KW without any problem.
Plugged in car, locked with fob. Confirmed with app and went to shop.
Did you see if the green light was lit on the charger?

Didn't check the before / after miles on the GOM, but that was an estimated 20 miles for free (Apart from the £86 on shopping).

I’ve had this with podpoint. Did you confirm the charge through the podpoint app? You can see the charge without unlocking by lifting the tailgate or pushing the door button without the key in proximity. You can also see how many kwh in the podpoint app. You’ll get about 20miles range normally in an hour depending on your mpk

Yeah - You have to confirm the charge after plugging in on the Pod Point app, or the charge will STOP after 15 mins.
On the post it does say "Up to 7 kw's".
But if you are not sharing a post, then you should be getting the Max 7.0 kw's unless there is a problem with the post of course.
As said, 1 hour of charge at the full 7.0 kw's should give you about twenty miles of extra range.
IF - You are below a 96 - 97% SOC.
At this point, the car will reduce the charge down to around 3.6 kw's as per normal.
Anything below 96% SOC and the car should accept the full Max 7.0 kw's if the post is working okay and you are not sharing the posts with other cars.
If you have the latest BMS update, it should allow you to charge on an A/C source with the doors unlocked.
Otherwise, when you unlock the doors with the fob, it will interrupt the charging cycle.
When you lock the doors, it should recommence the charge.
If you want to put shopping in the boot, don't unlock the car with the fob if it is on charge.
Just lift the MG badge on the hatch and it will allow you into the boot to put shopping away.
The doors will remain locked at this point.
Just shut the hatch when you have finished and it will lock the boot itself.

Thank you for your quick reply, I did use pod point app and I did confirm the charge, but everytime I unlocked the door to check, I had to pull the plug and start again

I was alone on the charger and I had about 49 miles left

I’ve had the same. Some podpoint public chargers don’t seem to restart and you have to disconnect and reconnect. It also depends if your car AC charges unlocked of course.

Then you should have been pulling the full 7.0 kw's then if the unit was performing correctly.
Did you check the app to see what the post was kicking out to the car ?.
I find once you have commenced the charge and verified in the App, it is better to try and not upset the apple cart, by returning to the car until it is time to leave if possible.
Unless like me, you always forget your own shopping bags until you have entered the shop.
Return to the car and just lift the MG badge and grab the bags you have forgot once AGAIN !.
As said before, you can enter the boot to gain access with out stopping the charge IF you don't use the key fob to unlock the car or press the chrome button on the front doors with key in close range of the car.
If you want to return to the car to check on it's charging progress, keep the fob out of range and then press the chrome button on the drivers door.
After a couple of seconds, it will bring up the charging display in the dash panel of your car long enough for you to read it through the drivers door window glass.
If you have the fob in your hand or pocket, when you press the chrome button it will unlock the car and stop the charge.
The fob needs to be about six feet away from the car.

I've used podpoint at Tesco and have returned to sit in the car whilst charging. If you depress the brake pedal the screen comes on car for a short time to show you state of charge and miles etc.

Not had chance to try it yet but if you use the fob to unlock the hatch, with the hatch button, does that stop the charge ? (assuming you can't charge unlocked)
I've not found a use for that hatch button on the fob yet.

Yes - the tailgate unlock button can be grouped with other pointless buttons now, like the battery button. Opening the tailgate by hand with the key in proximity does not unlock the whole car and lets you see the charge rate. I’ve not tried using the pointless tailgate unlock button. Perhaps on the exite version there is no proximity sensor and this is where the tailgate unlock button comes in?

I have not tried it myself, but I would assume it would NOT stop the charge.
The only reason I can see it being an advantage is this.
You are following a family member back to the car and they want access to the boot, but they are not carrying a key.
If you are in range with the fob, maybe you could "Zap" the boot release the hatch ?.
I have not tried it, but it makes some sense.
Opening the boot with the MG badge without unlocking the car with the fob, will not interrupt the charge.

Thanks for your many replies. Someone suggest pressing the brake peddle. we'll it does work it does show the charging state without interrupting the charge. what a brilliant club very very helpful, I used my granny charger from 7pm until 10.30 am today and it put 171miles on the clock

Strangely enough, I don't think the brake pedal works when you are on DC fast charge, I have to switch the car on then off again and it comes up on the centre screen but when I charge at home on the 7kw pressing the brake pedal works, strange

I cannot comment on the home charger, mine was installed 10 days ago, but there was a, slight increase in power, so they phoned the power company and they fixed it next morning, the installer disconnected the supply, I rang to say it had been fixed, not heard from them since, very annoying.
