Diagnostic VDI, VNCI, MDI with MG4

I got R63 2 weeks ago and have the same issue. Go back to dealer today and they said something were wrong with FICM and use SIPS do to something. Now, it works again.
But Weather and iSmart account on car (User) to receive routes doesn't work since R63 and after today updates.
If I reset activation, I can reconnect to my iSMART account and weather start to work fine, until next stop.


I went to engineering mode and everything is up to date except TBOX, still in SNAKP21E32 but SNAKP23E32 is available.

I went to the dealer yesterday, they updated the MCU via SIPS (68.4.3.0 to 68.4.7.0) and performed others updates (BCM, TBOX, FICM...)

At the end, still had the same issue but got 2 good pieces of advice yesterday. So I tried 1h ago : I reinstalled R63 MPU after resetting the unit from engineering menu and everything seems to be working fine.
I have to test for the next few days but I'm pretty confident it was fixed thanks to SIPS and a clean MPU install.

I have the same issue, I am also in 68.4.7.0
Could you explain the reset of the unit (factory reset in the engineering menu?), and what you use to do a clean install of R63? Can I use the R63 update media, or do I need something else?

It's totally that.
Use the R63 update after you perform a clean wipe from engineering menu.
I have to fi it 3 times because the system crash during first boot (language and location settings), either after rebooting. So the 4th time, went to settings and reset from there then, i perform a last clean wipe from engineering menu, setting the unit and update R63 again.
But the thing who helped is the FICM update Thursday by dealer. I was on 68.4.3.0 and updating to 68.4.7.0 help fixing weather and user (and having the R63 in a flash drive )

Thanks, updated on the software update thread, but it worked. The car was already on 68.4.7.0, just a clean install of R63 , and also the delete of the activations and re-activated tethered to a phone.

You can perform activation in 4G, it works. I tested it several times.

Hard to say, it looks the same but about ⅓ of what I paid from ali

Vnci make several different models for different cars not just the yellow one for MG
The original authentic version will cost more than that, most that are purchasable are Chinese clones and vary between $300 & $800, I wouldn't guarantee that the price reflects quality

I know with the MDI interfaces that there was reliability issues with clones

The vnci does feel slow with some updates but several people have tried it successfully, as far as I know, no-one has tried a vdi clone

The website looks cheap, but PayPal is possible. It seems to be the same device as on AliExpress. I’ll just give it a try.

Well I'm glad I bought a day pass this time as VDS software kept crashing the laptop so ended up taking my pc (micro Asus one) & monitor out to the car

A little disappointed all other cars I've connected to there's been parameters you can configure, couldn't find anything on this car
Went through SIPS & VDS, can software load modules, read DTC's, calibrate & carry out some testing
Updated everything it'd let me, HVAC & drivers seat said complete a couple of times but still reported the old version as well as Tbox wouldn't let me update without updating via USB first
On either software & RMI website I couldn't find the USB updates to download so still on R40 but most other modules are the latest

Cruise control now has 1mph increments from single touch
LKA no where near as bad
It now accelerates quicker
That's all I've noticed so far from 1 drive up the motorway & back

Any reason why the one press next would be greyed?

My logic is probably need to go into VDS3 (Using platform EH) and make sure all DTC's are clear then go back into SIPS to try update?

Anyone who is doing this I would get the day pass, a laptop, couple USBs for r63 and TBOX separately.

Additionally set aside a good few hours as some of the updates take 40-50 minutes on their own.

No wonder dealers want the whole day or don't want to do them cheap, as you've got to sit here monitoring.

I went out and got myself a 12V top-up charger for the bigger updates as I don't want the car to go dead in the middle of an upgrade. Smaller 5-6 minute ones were fine.

FVCM takes about 1h40!

Finally finished all the updates, only a ? in the EPS and one X for the Front Left Seat Module but seems to be intended when updating that it remains. All shows updated on the ECU at least so happy days.

A long day of waiting for a progress bar but a learning experience and self sufficiency!

I'd assume you'd need direct access to the VDI3 Device so I personally wouldn't risk it as if it goes wrong mid flash then you have bricked a module

Can't see an issue with a virtual machine, needs internet access & to be able to mount a usb device
But I haven't personally tried it, I've only run it on win 10 & win 11
