MG4 Software Update Thread

In your specific case, since you’re still on R16, most of your car’s ECUs are likely severely outdated. Your car should be upgraded via SIPS before attempting any MPU update.

R38 is available online, but as far as I know, R16 is not… meaning there’s no way to roll back.

For both tbox and infotainment (r38 is the current version right now for you) you'll need a computer with a vdi dongle and sips access.

I'd strongly advise against doing just the usb update as you'll definitely encounter bugs
So updating the tbox means both usb and sips? Just found a usb stick labeled tbox under the passenger seat...

Again, I'd strongly encourage not to do so. You'll probably end up with bugs like one of the steering wheel star buttons not working.

Edit: I mean running R38 just via USB update without SIPS reconfiguration to install the MCU software.
my USB upgrade from R05 to R38 seemed to upgrade the MCU (version number displayed at least)?

You can update the MCU either via SIPS or USB, but you have to perform both updates separately.

You moved from an Aussie version to a European one. Both versions are highly similar.
I did the opposite job for testing purposes, trying both R05 and R27.

R05 is seriously outdated. It lags about 18 months behind SWI131R27/SWI69R38 in development.

R27/38 are quite similar…

I think I remember you went for R38 instead of R27 because of rear-view camera issues, right?

Just picked up our SE today. I asked before collecting it for confirmation that the Infotainment had the latest update. They assured me it had. However it's on R29 and I thought R38 was the latest for the SE? Is it worth making a fuss? Anyone know what the difference between the two versions is? Cheers

correct. on my first MG i went to R38 via R27 (which is SWI131 so didn't need to disable version check) on my second i went straight to R38 and the MCU updated to same 131.1.3.0 despite it being a SWI69 update

What’s the full version number? (It should start with SWI or DBI.)

I’m asking because MY24 and MY25 cars have different release numbers…

R38 & R63 have been class as overseas versions which include Australia for release

I would share a screenshot the release info but they now watermark the username which I'd rather not share at the moment

It's sw1132-29958-1100R29

That’s what I thought.

You have a MY24/MY25 car, and your software version is SWI132-29958-1100R29.

It is not the same as R38, which is SWI69-29958-1100R38.

The lower release number doesn’t mean this version is older; it just indicates that it’s the 29th release of SWI132…

Thank you. But I'm still not sure if I have the most up to date version!
(ie. Is the 29th release of sw1132 older or newer than the 38th release of sw169?)
