Can I have the app on two phones? Mine and my wife's?
After downloading the app on the second phone I am asked for a phone number. At this step should I enter the number of the first phone or this phone (different phone)?
I understand the owner possibly needs to be only one (though shared ownership is a real and common possibility) but operators for things such as monitoring car activity, charging, etc, could be either of us - that's what we would like

Yes you can.

As you note, only one ismart account will be the primary and linked to the car.
Via the app with that one you invite other secondary account(s) to be a guest with the privileges to the car accessible on their phone's app.

I haven't set this up on my car for my wife yet, but your query reminds me that I need to get around to it!

What I am intrigued is how it will work for us where we both have MG4s and will be the primary for one and the "family member" for the other.

Noting the software development skills exhibited by our dear manufacturer in the past, no doubt this will be a seamless and well thought through implementation ;)

Done!
As you said: the primary owner with the app, settings menu, on their phone, authorizes another account. There are two levels of privileges: family for most, or friend for more limited.
The other user needs to have the app installed and to have registered. It main identification is the phone number (you can use your contacts), make sure to select the country code with pull-down menu.

Having picked-up our MG5 before Christmas, alongside the XPower, I simply binded the 5 to my existing account on the app at time of collection. This seemed to work well for just me, allowing for easy switching within the app between vehicles etc.
However, the problem came today when trying to set-up the app on my wife's phone for the first time to connect her to the 5 (which she'll be the main driver of) - had to unbind the car from my phone/account so that she could bind the car to the account she'd just set up. I now only have access to the XPower in the app and it appears I can't connect to the 5 without reversing above process.

Upshoot would seem that we need to delete our accounts (which currently use respective phone nos), unbind/reset the vehicles settings to default/factory status to clear previous connections, before creating a new single login (using email address instead of phone no) that both vehicles can be bound to. The second phone can then be set-up using the same login details, to have access to both vehicles. From what I gather though, whilst the account can be shared, only one phone can connect at a time and hence logs the other one out when being used - likely to be especially anoying if one of us accessing our own car will boot-off the other's access to their car, requiring us to continually re-login 😒

Will have a play tomorrow and see what happens...

You can always login to any iSmart account to which you know the login details. This will logout the previous device that was logged in. So no need to keep unbinding/binding the car to various accounts.

With the new Sharing option you can also give another account access to the car that is bound to your account.

Yes, just tried the sharing function this morning and it seems to work well. So looks like MG have managed to solve the problem within the app and ‘touch wood’ we won’t have any issues.

Situation is: Myself and my wife have kept our existing accounts tied to our own phone nos and bound to our respective vehicles only. We’ve then used the family share function under Secondary Accounts with each others login details which has enabled iSMART access to each others vehicle from our own accounts 😀

Just to be clear am I right in saying you can only "family share" if the second device is bound to a different MG car? I tried on a second phone which would not let me complete registration without binding so could not share. I was hoping not to keep logging in and out.

You need to open a New iSMART account first on the second device then invite that account through the primary account. I did it without the need to bind any cars to the second account.

Thanks what stopped me was it asked for a phone number then complained the email was wrong. It also would not accept strong password generation by Authenticator. Anyway it seems to work now, Excellent.

We have tried this but the app on my wife's phone won't give her access to any features without binding. We share the same ZS but we just can't get the secondary account to work without it being bound to the car which will unbind my phone.
We've uninstalled on wife's phone and re-registered but the app automatically asks her to bind and nothing works without binding.

I don't get it. When my wife registered on her phone the only option she had once I added her as a 2nd account was to bind??

This is the MG4 board ... in case there are any unique foibles with the ZS then you might be better asking in the relevant ZS board. (I note your profile says ZS Hybrid, so the board below may be best).

Sadly that did not last today the authorisation was revoked! OK so I reauthorised it but only 3 days at a time. Can I make it longer?
