MG4 Lane keep assist

I won't be writing to Which. The reason ? I don't believe the LKA on the MG4 to be any different to any other car with this awful invention. 3rd car with it , and I've driven others to name but a few BMW , Toyota , Hyundai, I have always ended up turning it off as it's invasive and doesn't work very well. So unless you're going to complain about LKA on all vehicles then I don't think it's fair to single out the MG4.
?

I ‘always’ turn off the (to my mind dangerous) LKA and swear silently when I forget. Just back from my hols, where I hired a petrol Corsa for a couple of weeks. Their “lane departure warning system” was superb - just a little vibration and a discreet flashing dashboard symbol, with the very gentlest of nudges. If only, MG…

Switch to alert and disable the alarm sound. You get the same.

LKA behaves inconsistently on mine. I have it switched to warn only, with vibration off yet sometimes the steering still "grabs" (with or without an audible warning) & sometimes I get just the audible warning, but I get a lot of false positives with either

Alert mode never 'grabs' anything. It is only signals you that you are crossing lane markers.
"When a wheel is about to cross the lane line, or has already crossed the line, the system will provide warnings to prompt the driver to take action and maintain the vehicle position between the lane lines. The function will automatically exit when the vehicle speed drops below 34 mph(55 km/h)."
You may be in another mode, or you are using TJA as well.

I know it shouldn't; that's my point, but it does on mine & cruise control & TJA aren't enabled

My LKA is clearly getting worse. It mostly fails to recognise existing lane markings, even when they are freshly painted on new tarmac or roads where it worked fine earlier in the year, and gives constant false positives when driving through dappled shade under trees. I don't know if it can't cope with the angles of the sun at this time of the year or something has been knocked out of alignment, but it's simply not fit for purpose right now. The car is due its first service in August so I'll ask for it to be examined.

I know it's been said before but make sure the top centre of your windscreen is clean so the camera has a clear view.

Mine's similar

Hello - new to the forum but a long-time lurker..
I can't find this posted anywhere else here, but Which? have noticed the LKA problem in their current MG4 testing. MG's response to them is that no customers have raised this as a safety concern! The view of Which? is that the MG4 LKA is noticeably worse than other manufacturers. MG says that there should be an update soon.
Which? want feedback if you have had similar problems to them. This isn't one of their paywall articles.
Thank you, it's good than somebody noticed the problem and write about it. Interesting when MG is going to release new version of software with LKA upgrade? In a month, half year ...?

Incoming fairly soon by the looks of it

That's a ticket to the dealer then. Only they can correct this. Do you have the oportunity to make a video of this behavior?
I'm not sure it would show on video; I'm not aware of any visual warnings when it happens. It's also intermittent & I can't predict when it's likely to happen

If is lka you can see the line that triggers it coloring red. If the system also pulls at the wheel, you can see it in a video. I have recorded this when it happened in mine when I did not want it to.
True, you need to simply record the whole journey

I've always been too busy fighting the car to notice ?

But LKA should not have been able to be turned off permanently; the fact that your car allowed this was a software bug/foible and applying updates has reverted your car to the as-designed state.

This isn't a battle you're going to win.
You keep saying this was a bug/foible that allowed permanent disabling, but all MG4s from early release had this feature.

Sorry but that is completely, 100% false. My car is from the early batches (built Aug '22, delivered Nov '22 and is an SE with privacy glass). Mine has always defaulted to LKA On.

I've only found it to be "dangerous" if moving lanes without indicating which obviously could be viewed as dangerous in itself.

Or are you experiencing issues at other times?
I obviously can't speak for others, but living in Devon (or anywhere with narrow roads or potholes!) I often have to get near to the central line. Having my car effectively scream "get over" and twitch the wheel is annoying to say the least. I agree that on dual carriageways with a good surface, it could help people avoid dangerous driving, but I switch mine off every time.
