MG4 Range

I've had my Excite 51 for just over a week now and I'm getting 410kms / full charge. So far I've done just shy of 900kms and the efficiency is very good. For my situation at least I feel MG have undersold the efficiency of the vehicle. At roughly 108kms/hr on the Gold Coast expressway I'm getting 14kwh/100km.
They're great figures. I agree that in our conditions the WLTP appears to be a bit lower than 'real world' and am surprised that a lot of the early car site reviews reckoned they were getting 18kWh/100km or more in mixed driving so they must have been driving very erratically.

Following my previous monthly posts, here's my accumulated monthly efficiency in the Trophy. Compares with 3.7 in August, 3.6 in July, 3.9 in June and 3.8 in May.

I have a Trophy LR . Just been to the Norfolk Broads for a week. Charged to 95% before I left from North Staffordshire , arrived with 20% and 55 miles left after 210 mile journey. Came back today, went to Gridserve forecourt at Norwich and charged back up to 95% . Achieved a max charge speed of 139kw , now home with 15 % 39 miles left. So averaged 4.6 miles /kwh on the way down but only 4.2 miles /kwh on the return trip. Overall pretty happy with the trip , car was great , handles better than the boat we had .

On the SR LFP battery, go for 200 miles in the summer and 150 miles in the winter (from 100% full), to be honest the range left on the screen is pretty accurate - and fairly linear (on the SR its pretty much twice the battery left as range left), and if you get worried just reduce your speed (as with an ICE car)

That sounds very good, can I ask what your average speed was for the trip? and ratio of different road types m-way/A roads etc
I'm amazed at figures many people are achieving with the Trophy, as I'm not getting anywhere near them, never over 4 m/kwh and averaging in the low 3s
I have car almost 3 months ago and clocked up over 3000 miles, and my average efficiency on the GOM shows 3.2, equalling around 200 miles to a full charge, although it is fairly consistent.

One big caveat is a most of my journeys are on motorways but even then when possible I drive 10-15% under the limit.
I roughly estimate I'm getting similar mileage to what others are getting from the SR.
Have tried variety of drive settings with minimal change, and rarely use AC.

Efficiency aside I'm very happy with car and how it drives (excl LKA)

Motorways / A roads are around 3.0ish miles / kwh in our experience

Ok, so would it be fair to say you're losing around 25% range on motorway driving?
I travel between cork and clare weekly, normally take the route down to cork via caherconlish / mitchelstown and then onto the motorway.
Lately I have been travelling back up to clare via mallow / charleville and am using 2-3% less battery than the trip down.

On my first leg of trip because I sat on 110kmh plus was testing and changing settings and driving styles... I was getting 18kwh/100km and that didn't help showing it off to mates and family dragging people off at lights etc.

On the return trip I settled down and set into a 100 to 105km/h on the expressway and saw the range extend and by the time I got back to Brisbane it was already down to 16kwh/100kms.

I can see what you are saying all the numbers MG released are very achievable and easily surpassed if you drive efficiently.

So what is your actual efficiency/range and which model do you have SR/LR/Trophy?

I'm averaging 17.6 kWh/100km (3.5 mls/kWh) according to my accumulated total.
I have the trophy .
My average range is around 360km but probably could surpass that if i started to turn off aircon, slow down and set it in eco but it's not fun driving like that.
I do find opd is less efficient than adaptive regen but that could be down to my driving style.

Yes it was a mix of roads on the outward journey with very little motorway , I deliberately kept to a maximum of 60 mph, used AC if required by the missus . On the way back was mostly dual carriageway and motorway again max speed 60 . Got into a standstill traffic jam on the M6 , actually turned the car off as we weren't moving at all for about 15 mins and the missus was asleep.

Peace and quiet both outside and inside the car. :ROFLMAO:

Very good, keeping below 60mph would definitely be helping your efficiency,
I try to keep speed down a bit when I can but unfortunately as a lot of my commute is at rush hour on a two lane motorway that's not realistic as I'd be a nuisance to others, also in Ireland m-way limit is 120km/h (75mph) so that makes its slightly worse.
I've come to realise that even though most EVs (and ICE cars) lose more efficiency at higher speeds, the MG4 seems worse than most, and the Trophy model with spoiler worst of all, a shame as otherwise a great car.

My average is 19.2kWh/100km (3.2mi/kWh)
So as I say above its likely motorway driving is what's killing my efficiency, my range works out around 320km or slightly less, so prob 25% down from the stated range.

Currently not a big deal for me, but I'm hoping range doesn't fall off a cliff when the colder months arrive ?
Although from figures others quote the SR (LFP battery chemistry) seems to suffer more in colder months than the LR (NMC battery)

As a guide last winter (got the car start of Feb) I was getting 3.6 mi/KWh average.

Hi here is a 70 mph range test done by Stuart Thomas in the MG4 SESR with at the end a comparison between the SESR and trophy LR.
I have achieved better figures then these in our SeSR but I don’t drive at this 70mph speeds for long periods I’m around the 62-65 mph, and in the summer months have seen over 4 mi/kWh several times at them speeds but interesting video for MG4 owners and any one thinking of buying one.
Thanks Stuart.

From Manchester, I was on M56 this morning headed towards Chester, it was cold, miserable and very wet! Driving at between 60-65mph, I’ve achieved 3.7 miles/kw on standard mode with climate.
