MG4 Rumbling and vibration

They are not the same as european tyres, they are a Chinese equivalent which will be a cheaper design to make, so they won’t be as good.

The question is when is the right time to replace a new car’s tyres and which ones to go for? I haven’t seen anyone post on this forum that they have done it yet, be good to have some recommendations.
I think I seen on FB group they have changed to all season tyres. I normally always fit Michelin CrossClimates to my cars and find them so good. However reluctant to change tyres with less than 1000 miles on them.

Yes, it is a lot of money to spend to replace new tyres.

Edit: I had the same issue with my Skoda, the factory tyres had absolutely rubbish grip and endlessly spun the front wheels. A set of Goodyears all round sorted it out but was £650.

I recall reading (here or FB) that someone has fitted / is fitting All Season tyres, ones with the Mountain/Snow symbol as well as the M+S lettering. (They're planning to go to Germany where tyres in winter must - by law - be suited to the climate, and must include the symbol ... M+S lettering is not enough. If you're caught breaching the rules then it's a €1000 fine and your vehicle is seized).

M&S won’t do? ?

I intend to change to all-season ASAP, but only once the rumble/vibration is sorted.
The fact the tyres haven’t done many miles doesn’t bother me, I’ll sell them cheap on Facebook.

OK, just rang dealer as I had noticed that the car had done no miles or moved from garage.
They told me they were investigating the rumble noise.
I then said, but the car has not moved all day as the App has shown no movement and battery and miles same as over the weekend. They then confessed that the mechanic did not come in today who was looking after my car and they are short staffed.
So sorry no news yet about Rumble and have little faith in there being any?
Apparently new breather fitted....wow!

Update:
My dealer rang earlier and said they think the vibration /rumble is coming from tyre deformation. So they were going to switch my wheels for a good demostrators wheels which has no rumble.

Just rang back a few hours later and they reckon it has stopped on my car now so they want me, tomorrow morning, to come and test drive with the other cars wheels on. If I am happy the rumble has gone they will have to swap back and get permission off MG Tech to change tryes under warrenty.

I said I wanted all season tyres on anyway so if we get to that stage they will ask if they can exchange for CrossClimates. So could be a good result.
Will update tomorrow so hopefully others can push for this fix?? Lets see first.
Really sounds like they wanted to find the reason, which is excellent really.

Fingers crossed for you.

Great news and good that it was the cause most suspected. Hopefully they will swap or at least only charge you the difference if more expensive.

I have just driven my car with dealers demonstrator wheels on and the technician came with me. There was a massive difference, however there was a slight rumble vibration at around 70 but no way as bad as with my wheels on.
Went back and he switched wheels again to mine, test drive and as bad as before.
Tech lad convinced the tyres are not good. He can even see a flat area on the tyres, he reckons the demonstrator is getting worse as well.

So now its up to MG if they will allow dealer to exchange tyres for a new set. He is sending his report in now and will have to wait for reply. In the mean time I have taken car back awaiting further info from MG China!!

Lets hope MG accept his findings, if not where do I stand?

So as we stand on my issues.
  • Oil Leak from transmission gearbox – new breather assembly required (FITTED)
  • Bulge in undertray to rectify, (Awaiting fix from MG)
  • Drowsiness Alert system in fault mode. (Awaiting fix)
  • Vibration/Rumble from car above speeds of 50 MPH, Felt through whole car and steering wheel. (Most certainly poor trye quality, awaiting response from MG)
  • Rattle in way of glove box area and footwell. ??
  • Infotainment screen not stable and unuseable. (Appears to be OK, as nothing really done by dealer)
  • Climate control has to be up to 26 to get any warmth into car. If set to normal temps 22 Deg C. it’s COLD. (Appears to be the same)

Who is your dealer and what did they say about the undertray? Mine told me that MG UK told them the bulging undertray is “by design”. I laughed so hard.

Dealer is Vic Youngs, South Shields. They have admitted it is not by design, hillarious your dealer should say that. VY's just say waiting for response from MG China on fix.

Progress regarding the vibration / rumble !.
I did suggest the wheels / tyre switch out in the early comments #39.
Simple process of elimination starting with most likeliest culprit !.
I have seen brand new cars tested on a rolling road in the car assembly plant and then wheels have been replaced due to vibration felt on the rolling road.
These tyres are brand new, but have a run out / manufacturing issue present.
I remember a tech from Dunlop spending the whole day, at the large dealership that I once worked at.
He spend all day, trying to cure a vibration on a Rover 3500 V8 S.
He started by double checking all of the suspension components and then checking the geometry ? of the car both front & back.
Remember this was before we had four wheel alignment machines.
He then started checking for ovality / run out at all four positions.
Then removed all of the wheels, then removed all four tyres.
Checked the run out on all four rims.
The spent absolutely ages inspecting each and every tyre, inside and out looking for any defects.
Had the wheels taken away and four new tyres fitted, that he had brought with him.
When they came back, they had been fully balanced of course by the tyre company.
Wheels and new tyres refitted, he then balanced all four wheels AGAIN while they where mounted on the car !.
Road test carried out and the problem had been sorted.
The dealership called the customer and asked him to attend a test drive with the tech from Dunlop !.
Customer now happy that the problem had been sorted.
Cause of the problem, was judged as a manufacturing error at he tyre factory !.
You don’t see that level of customer service these days !.

Further Update : My screen would not swipe left to the other settings screen. Tech guy knew this and reported to MG along with occasional radio freeze, occasional Screen oscillating between main and settings. He rang me at 4:45 saying MG have agreed to supply a new Screen/PC Unit.
So he has ordered one. Still waiting for news on tyres. If they get the go ahead I will just pay the difference between Continentals and CrossClimate2's. Would be happy with that.
VY's have been really pro-active and doing their best to resolve all these issues.
