MG4 Rumbling and vibration

Further Update : My screen would not swipe left to the other settings screen. Tech guy knew this and reported to MG along with occasional radio freeze, occasional Screen oscillating between main and settings. He rang me at 4:45 saying MG have agreed to supply a new Screen/PC Unit.
So he has ordered one. Still waiting for news on tyres. If they get the go ahead I will just pay the difference between Continentals and CrossClimate2's. Would be happy with that.
VY's have been really pro-active and doing their best to resolve all these issues.
Pleased to hear that they are looking after you. Dealers often get a bad press, nice to know there are good ones.

My dealer just called to say the breather is fitted and they’ve balanced the wheels, which were “miles out”
I’ll be pleasantly surprised if it was as simple as wheel balance, we shall see soon enough.
I just had call from my dealer, who is a bit pissed off as MG saying the tyres are not covered under warrenty.
A few on here have said up to 1000 miles but he read out to me 0 miles 0 time.

They are now going to MG in UK to ask for a good will payment to change them. I wont hear about that until next week now.

Another black mark in the MG Tech customer care!!!.
So looks like if you have the rumble/vibration and more likely crap Chinese rubber, then tough luck as far as MG are concerned and go buy your own to see if it resolves it.

Lets hope they do it on good will????

If the tyres were faulty from the start, they should replace them under warranty. That’s a bit shocking.

I agree, however as it states on warranty 0Miles 0time, so the fact they drive it on and off ship and I think mine had 17 miles on it then tyres are void before you even get it. Not worth the paper thats written on.

If the tyres are faulty they should be covered by the tyre company. A work colleague had cracking between the treads of his continental tyres on his 6 month old Merc and the dealer took it up with the tyre company for him.
I think your dealer or MG are not being proactive enough, they should be contacting the tyre manufacturer.

Assuming my car still rumbles and vibrates, which I fully expect, I’ll be getting all-season fitted ASAP and praying that does the job instead.
It’s really getting to point I may need them soon, these standard continentals are abysmal in the wet and I can only assume would be horrific in snow.

Yes, putting decent tyres on a good handling car is always worth it and Chinese tyres are pretty basic/average.

If the tyres are faulty then what they offer in their warranty has as much relevance as the price of cheese - the Consumer Rights Act 2015 covers you, and their warranty cannot overrule your legal rights. And whoever supplied the tyres is also immaterial - you have no contract with the tyre supplier.

I will see if they replace under MG UK good will first. I also read this in the warranty about excluding tyres. However its not wear and tear its a defect.
I honestly think the tyres have deformed flat spots due to being on a hot ships deck (especially if in lower hold above the engine room) for over two weeks and not moved.

I have been getting rumbling/vibration with my car. I thought initially that it was just related to the battery cooling pump kicking in. I’ve been driving mainly 45 mph average on my commute but yesterday longer high speed trip. Vibration was kicking in on front and rear, could feel through steering and seat. Took in to have the balancing checked today and the tyre fitters are part of the group where I bought my car so Im not paying and the tyre guy has no axe to grind. He was quite shocked, three out of four wheels not balanced correctly and apparently significantly off. For those that know about these things, OS Rear 10 and 20 grams out, OS Front 0 and 30 grams out and NS Front 0 and 25 grams out.

You would think they could at least balance wheels properly on a new car wouldn’t you?

So has the rumble/ vibration gone?

Apologies in advance for long reply to a simple question and a rant for good measure.

There are/were 2 different things I was feeling through the car.

1. I can definitely feel when the battery cooling pump kicks in. This is felt under/after hard acceleration. If I accelerate hard to 70 mph for example, I feel it kick in, it stays on for maybe 20 seconds after I reach 70 and then I feel it switch off. This one is not really an issue for me. I would prefer if I felt nothing but it is a “feature” of the car for me and I felt exactly the same thing when I asked to test an identical car.

2. The balancing. I was confused as I was noticing other vibration the more I drove the car. I had not really been above 45 mph much on my daily commute and the vibration seemed to start at 50 mph and above. The thing I was feeling described in point 1 was clouding the issue but I became convinced the balancing was off. This was confirmed yesterday and fixed and has made a huge difference, when I go over 50 it feels smooth, as it should.

I think anyone with rumbling/vibration should consider that there could be different things they are feeling at any one time. Consider that you may be feeling the cooling pump on hard acceleration but definitely get the balancing checked. I am annoyed as I did report vibration to my dealer some weeks ago and they did not check the balancing which would seem like a no brainer.

The fact that MG release a car without balancing the wheels properly is laughable, as is the fact that they are releasing cars and waiting for oil leaks before fitting a cheap part to fix the problem thus inconveniencing their customers. I am staggered by the incompetence and complete indifference shown to customers from MG

Some weeks ago, I contacted someone I know, a motoring correspondent at The Sun. I was so p****d about “oil leak gate” and MG response, I wondered if they were interested. I got several voicemails saying they were very interested in running a story. I never got back to them as I calmed down a bit and just wanted a quiet life. We learn of people being locked in cars, we know that MG are indifferent to the inconvenience to their customers with oil leak, if we complain to MG corporate we deal with Mr “Smart” who stops communicating as soon as he realises his BS and confrontational attitude doesn’t wash. Should I pick up the phone to The Sun? I might start a poll.

I’ve not felt the rumble in hard acceleration, the rumble/vibration I’ve been getting is at steady speeds, starts around 50mph and just gets progressively worse until, at around 80mph, it’s ridiculous.
I’m picking up my allegedly fixed car in an hour ( thoughts and prayers welcomed )

Edited, while I’m hoping it’s fixed and as simple as balancing, doesn’t this suggest a really slack attitude to QC at the factory?
It’s a bloody worry….

If you can, find out how far off the balancing was (assuming it was off). My fitter gave me the numbers, they were way off.

That's what's been worrying me the most Bowfer.
The issues I can deal with, most new products go through teething issues. The response or will to get right to the heart of the matter by MG though.....
Red flags billowing.

You have a right to be enraged. You have had a few issues and have been optimistic about things more than a fair few people.

I get the attention is probably what you want to consider. Worth it or not. Could go anonymous though.
Either way you have been a patient and understanding person.

Well, car collected and the rumbling/vibration…………..seems almost completely gone….
Being picky, as I am, I’m still getting a touch at around 77mph but it’s a huge improvement.
I couldn’t get details of how much the wheels balances were out as the service people aren’t in, just sales guys.

HOWEVER, now I have s new problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In start up the car is displaying tyre pressures fine, after a few minutes it’s losing them all and a TPMS system fault warning.
I’m getting really hacked off now, I can’t keep driving 40mins back to the dealer all the time.
(Away to search the forum for this problem or start a new thread)
