MG4 Secret Menu Mode...

Sometimes I like to spend time sitting in the car. When I turn the car off using the switching off button, the lights go off, but the air conditioning also stops working. I want to create an environment where the air conditioning works, but the DRLs don't disturb people.
Ah, ok. Fair enough. ??

You and me both. I just slept in the car for nine nights, on a road trip. I had the lights covered with blackout curtains, but on the second-last night a breeze kept lifting one of them and creating a weird semaphore effect. I'm told they actually blow off if the wind is strong enough.

Not just camping. Aurora-watching, drive-in cinemas, even just sitting waiting for someone and not wanting your lights blazing. You'd think a simple software update would fix it. Maybe we should start a campaign.

Some places they're legal requirement, guess MG wanted to make it easier for themselves & just made it on for all regions
Highly unlikely that a menu will give the option, more likely via ODB but VDS has no parameters you can change
I wonder if it's like BMW where you use a config editing program then a different program to load it to the car
I might be able to get the BCM config file but editing it & getting sips to use a local file is another issue

Anyone know if there is a section in the menu to change the speed sign recognition units? My car is in kmh but it only recognises mph signage i.e. up to 70

It was a known bug which I didn't think had a fix but I've learned other cars in Ireland don't have this problem so I'm thinking there might be a setting somewhere

If not I'll bring it up at next service but thought I'd ask

i have started a campaign ?. Campaign for adding "Camping Mode" to MG4

I don't believe there is any country that mandates a stationary car has to show lights. It's nuts.
From the RAC:

"The Highway Code says that all vehicles must display parking lights or sidelights when parked on a road (or lay-by) with a speed limit over 30mph. They are designed to be left on for long periods of time when you leave your car and shouldn't drain your battery."

Clearly not enforced, or observed, but officially them's the rules.

And when you're not parked in such a place?

Residential streets where the speed limit is 30 mph or less. Off street car parks. Camping sites. Need I go on?

As I said in the new thread, I think this would be best worded as a simple request for the ability to turn the lights off, with a list of the different circumstances where this would be useful, rather than tying it specifically to camping.

The point is you said, and I quote: "I don't believe there is any country that mandates a stationary car has to show lights. It's nuts." - and there is at least one, the UK! (and probably others).

DRL's were mandatory in some locations in Europe before the UK, my 2004 Sweden spec Saab had them turned on but using a dealer diagnostic interface you could switch them off but thats a pre EU mandate model

Anyway this is a infotainment menu thread ?

But the conversation is about DLR lights, you are quoting a requirement for parking lights or side lights which is irrelevant to DLRs whilst the car is "on" but parked.

It's irrelevant anyway. The MG4 can be left parked with no lights showing absolutely anywhere you like by the simple expedient of locking the car and walking away. In fact I'm not quite sure what I should do if I want to park and lock the car and leave these lights on. Regardless of legislation.

The problem is compulsory light pollution when the car is stationary with someone inside who wants the HVAC to stay on. In a car park, or a residential street, or a drive in cinema, or a camp site.

These lights are bloody bright after dark. They're a complete passion killer if you're trying to see the aurora, and they draw attention, often unwanted, if you're just sitting in the car waiting for someone after dark.

They're a total embarrassment in a camp site. The magnetic curtains work if there's no wind, but a bit of a breeze will lift them, causing a weird semaphore effect, and can even blow them right off.

It needs a fix.
