MG4 Software Update Thread

You phoned in a 'rage'? You haven't even driven the car yet. It could very well drive perfectly well. Why don't you take delivery of the car, drive it for a few days and see if there are any perceived 'faults' before raging at the dealer? Crikey, if someone 'raged' at me, I would just close the 'door' in their face for something so trivial.
Tuareg, I've had the car for 16 months.

I've just dropped my Mg4 off for it's 2nd service. I asked about software updates. They said at the service they do any necessary (recall) updates, but there's none outstanding on my car. As regards other updates, they said there are lots coming out all the time, so it's not practical to install every available update on a car. She asked if there was anything I might be having issues with. I said the lane keep assist is a bit over zealous at times. She said there might be an update for that, so she'd ask them to have a look. I'll find out later!
surely it is practical to install all available updates at a service though - you aren't asking for it to be updated every day. The update attitude is ridiculous, plug it in and leave it for an hour or 2 - if the process doesn't work like that they need to sort the process out!

The updates are pretty straight forward if you're a technically inclined person who deals with software all the time.
Think about your average workshop mechanic. They probably aren't that sort of person.
You've highlighted an important issue: most technicians come from a mechanical background, whereas the role of a mechanic has evolved significantly over time. Working in a dealer’s workshop no longer involves tasks like trimming carburettors; rather, it requires performing software updates and mastering electronic diagnostic tools. While technicians generally master the basic operation of these tools, many lack a computing background. Added to this is the fact that MG appears to provide them with poor guidelines.

The thing is the manufacturer has identified enough of an issue with a previous version of the software that they have generated a new version to correct that issue. Just because you have never encountered the issue does not mean you won't in the future

That is like saying, we are not going to check how tight the wheel bolts are, as you have never had a wheel fall off the car.

There’s also other things.
I learned the other day that SIPS is really slow and errors out a lot on wifi for me. Hook up an Ethernet cable and it got a lot better after.

How many shops are getting annoyed at the constant failed downloads but don’t realise their wifi is part of the problem?

Indeed, plus some SIPS update "silently fail" to update or completely fail without reason (e.g. the EVCC one or the HVAC one)

She made it sound like there were so many periodic updates to the car, that its logistically difficult/too fiddly to just let it roll with an "update all" type of process. I have read people mention before that, for each possible update, they have to contact the servers in China, which can at times be temperamental.

Well they did the update anyway that is supposed to temper down the lane keep assist, so I'll see how that goes on in the next few days!

Hola.
Me descargo las versiones r46 y r59 pero el archivo siempre está corrupto. Con la versión r33 no hay problema.
¿Alguna forma de descargar los archivos de forma alternativa y que no sea google drive?
Gracias

Hi.
I download versions r46 and r59 but the file is always corrupted. With version r33 there is no problem.
Is there any way to download the files in an alternative way and not through Google Drive?
Thanks

It is required to write in English in this forum. I understand that not everyone is fluent in English, but you may use Google Translate if you’re not comfortable writing in English.

You can try these links:

MG 4 - Downloadable Files

MG - Google Drive

Apparently r63 was released out November 11th just updates the HVAC allowing the heating to work better at lower temps and fixing the hot spot issues.

I wonder how many months till the next update? 10?
Would be great if this is also the case for the new SE software. I’m fed up with my car getting nice and warm only to then blast me with cold air for a time, as it seems to heat the car too much, then cools it down again. The heating system is really irritating.

There's 6 uploaded, 6 more currently being extracted to get details

Had to replace the folders with zip files

Currently on nights so will be a few days for the rest although I may have to move them as drive is almost out of space, 14GB of MG4 stuff on the Google drive, currently 1.5TB of MG stuff on a NAS, main problem is finding what you want as you have to open the files to see which model it's for then do several separate extraction to view details (zip file, OTA file, payload.bin, system.img)
