My son has worked in I.T, now works for a games company. He said it has often been known for them to put out a software update for a game for it to fix one problem, only to create another. Sometimes it’s made the problem the update was made for worse. There hasn't been a fault free infotainment software update yet so unless you really can't live with the version you have I wouldn't be too quick to get the latest one installed. It might cure one fault only to replace it with another.
I admit there were one or two bugs in my first car but most of them simply went out of the windows ?All software development be like this, no exceptions:-

The issue is that the more people that use the software (Us!), the more "edge cases" are found.Well, many of the 'queries' about 'bugs' are often user error anyway. MG will of course be performing regression testin, unit & system testing but no doublt this will actually be performed by a 3rd party company in China where the software development, maintenance and production releases are handled.
I worked on embedded software and there the story is a little more complicated. But in general I agree. The problem is regression testing for MG will be a Herculean task as they do not maintain a "standard" platform with known versions. Modules are updated ad-hoc and every car seems to be running different versions of software somewhere. It would be impossible to regression test against all those possible combinations.
That is why software companies like Microsoft, Apple, Google etc learned long ago you push updates out to the users to make sure they are all on "standard" configurations. In business, if you phone HP/Dell etc for support with an issue on their computers the first thing they ask is what versions you are running, and the standard response if you are on old versions is words to the effect "upgrade to the latest versions and if you still have the problem call back".
How do you know?Apparently R59 is available now. ?![]()
I'll wait for pictures.Because someone (here?) has posted to say they have it. ?![]()
Folks, no doubt it has been posted on here, I’ve probably read it & forgot ?
How do you check what software version you have?
I picked my car up in January, I’d presume it would have been updated with the latest version available at the time? Even if I have an older version, I’m happy to carry on with it until the car goes in for its first check up/service … “If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it” … I’d just be interested to know.
