MG4 Software Update Thread

No, it's not like that! You can easily make the change happen in 5mph (or presumably kph) increments by holding the joystick just a little longer. It comes with practice and you will not have a problem.

A firm press moves up or down to the next round 5mph (or kph). A quick flick will move up or down by 1 mph (kph). I've had the change and it's genuinely better. I can still move by increments of 5 if I want to.

Nope, I have it on R46 as well - which I got back in November.

Had my first service yesterday. The only update applied was one for auto high beam sensitivity (Auto high beam was useless, maybe it is less useless now, will see when it gets darker again)..
Remarkable.

Agreed. Took me less than 1 minute to adjust to the change, and the ACC is now more in line with pretty much every other car I've driven that has had cruise control.

This. The ACC change made the car so much better. No more slowdowns in every curve.

And I live in Norway as well, no problems with the increment change.

Well I took it for a long drive out and all the bugs I had with R46 have been fixed in R59. Bluetooth connection is stable , high beam now works correctly. When in cruise control the car no longer slows down on a slight bend. Lane assistance is far less aggressive. Icons now show on BBC radio stations. Plus more improvements to type down. So far found nothing negative to report.
Sounds like your dealer is making an excuse not to do the upgrade.
Does the drop down still work with android auto and car play?

It does on my SE with 1100R33. I think 1300R59 implements the same screen size so that the top bar (with temperature etc.) still shows, thus the pull down menu is available even when AA/CP is on screen.

I saw a doc from somewhere here on the forum telling it no longer works. You have to go through home, than open the drop down, disable ELK, go back to home, click on AA or AC.
I think this is the most important reason why r59 is not distributed. One of the highlights is the quick disable ELK option. I still think it is not quick enough, but combined with AA or AC it no longer works. And the poor implementation of the map software more or less forces us to use AA or AC. I for instance received an answer from MG they will not implement Dutch in the navi system. You can laugh your pants of listening to Dutch street names in English.. so you go for Maps ot ToTomgo via AA or AC.

This is why it is interesting to see that on top of r46 package you can get the extended drop down ..

Read here:R59 overlay

It does not explicitely refer to the quick menu. It is however an overlay as well in AA mode. And it states it no longer works for AC either.

If this only counts for the airco settings, than of course my assumptions were wrong.

I had the gear box oil breather done on Wednesday and a software update so that I now get the temperature display.

What I didn't expect was this morning when it said the temperature was low (14*) and did I want Intelligent battery heating? Que?! Never had that before. Also I went round to see a friend this afternoon and as I was reversing tight to her van saw a little red cm reversing distance display which I'd never seen before and as I peered to look at it reversed into her van.. Later, as she is also on the insurance and co-driver on our Italian trip she went out to have a look and promptly did the same! :-) No damage mind.

I need to go and check on other features or changes, but that's for Friday.

Sounds like you had the R33 update done on the SE. You can read more about the features on this thread…

Had our MG4 Trophy collected early this morning to have updates done, car was delivered back this afternoon, the guy from the dealership said they'd been working on it all morning and was surprised that for a newer car (1 month) it needed 12 updates (?!?) although I'm not sure what's actually been updated as the settings say the Entertainment system and Telecommunication version are still exactly the same as before, R40 and 21E32. ?

You would think that it makes sense to have the factory install all the latest updates. That has to be cheaper overall than updating in thousands of service centres. But many if not all of the computer modules with firmware would be third party, and it may be that the third party manufacturers supply old firmware, and SAIC may not be able to convince them to supply the latest MG specific modifications.

But more likely to me is that the modules come blank, and SAIC has to program them with possibly region specific firmware. They may have to do that before installation in the cars, otherwise it might slow down the production line too much. So they may have shelves with modules containing obsolete firmware.

Even so, it seems to me that they could do a lot better. I suspect that updating at the factory, perhaps after main manufacturing, would be much quicker than it takes over international internet.

12 updates is roughly half the modules in a typical MG.

They have updated your modules but not firmware. This happened to me when I took it in for an update. My modules were updated but my firmware was still R46. I took it back and told them it’s R59 now , so they booked it back in and installed the new firmware. My god what a difference loads better than R46. Fixed a dozen issues I had with the car.

It's often the same with computer parts or video games.
Buy a thing on release day, and discover it still needs a huge update before it will let you use it.

In this case, your 1 month old car is actually 2.5 months old because it spent 6 weeks on the slow boat from China. Which is why dealers really should run updates as part of the PDI.

Closely related to Software, but yesterday my MG4 displayed Service Due ? when going through the start up.

The car is 72 plate its not due until November for its second service, mileage 14000, does anybody know how to clear this notification other taking it to the dealer 30 miles away.
Yellow triangle is getting on my nerves.

That's close to 24k km's, which is the limit here.

I think the point is that it has already had a first year service (in November 2023) so the service "counter" should have been reset then, thus the mileage counter should have been reset to zero meaning being at 14k miles now should be irrelevant - the car wasn't near zero miles last November. :)
