Thanks, I understand what "Root" means now

It looks like I need to put the following on the USB drive, is that correct, sorry if this is really basic

vipimage.bin
md5_check.txt
AVN_MPU folder

What is complicated in my answer ?
If you don't master this step, I advise you not to try to change version.

You must put at the root of the USB key:

• The AVN_MPU folder that integrates the usb_ota_update.zip file
• The file vipimage.bin
• The file md5_check.txt

I too have a Mac and you won't be able to do it directly : Windows or other by formatting in FAT32.
I'm using Ubuntu with Parallels and I've managed to install R59.

I understand, you're all thinking "what a knob lol" I just like to get everything straight in my head before I do things.

Basically - if you only have a device running MacOS (The Mac operating system) then you won't be able to complete the task. @3L3ctroNuc is running a virtualisation application (Parallels) on their Mac and running Linux (Ubuntu flavour) within it in order to get around the restrictions placed by MacOS.

That's how I understand it.

Not sure if the Mac issue is a restriction per se but I've seen elsewhere that when OSX formats a drive it does something differently that not all systems are compatible with

The latest for the UK SE is 1100R38 - it was released about a week ago. Whether or not your dealer will give you this I can't say - I have a good relationship with my dealer and they simply did it at the service last week. (I don't know if the HVAC update requires also an Infotainment update due...

I fiddled around with R38 new settings today and quite enjoyed setting steering to "heavy".
It seems to be better for me for manoeuvring.

I did the upgrade on a May 2023 Confort and it's easy and OK.
Seems the HVAC offset is on the headunit (This morning i set it to 20 and it was ok (usually I set it to 23).
The only thing that bothers me is the drop down menu does not work anymore on android auto :/

The problem is MG have multiple sites, services etc
We all know RMI where you can buy logins which works for the software and a few sites one of which you can get access to the 1100 (SE) software, hence the sudden availability of several versions
Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have the 1300 (trophy) software
The only places documented for having that we don't currently have access to and MG when I enquired about access stopped responding months ago
A website appeared that was a partial clone of MG TRIP by Paul Chandler & Carolyn Chong (cchandler.co.uk) that provided R59 but unfortunately they took it down
If R63 is found then it'll be shared but the source probably won't be to protect the source

I reverted to R33 because Wifey’s taking the car in for servicing tomorrow.

She’s going to complain about the heater being 2°C off and will ask if updating to R38 or upgrading the HVAC ECU might fix the issue. She also has several photos of the car running R59 in her phone and will take along a USB drive with archives of both R38 and R59, just in case. (If the dealer is interested)

The idea behind is to see if it’s possible to get R63 straight from the dealer. I’m not sure if she’ll succeed , but she insisted that “Dutch chicks always get what they want.” Let’s see if it proves her right!

I’m a bit skeptical but who knows…

I’ve successfully installed both R46 and R59 (as documented earlier in this thread), so I think I can give R63 a try… If I can find it!
