MG4 Software Update Thread

When I tried to update via SIPS it said to carry out a clear via usb first, last time I was connected to the car I noticed there's a clear in routine
I was planning on trying it when I break up for Christmas

It’s done routinely at dealerships!

The adapter connects directly to the TBox, just behind the glovebox…
you are never better served than by yourself... I would really like to know how to do it myself :)

so basically plug in the cable... put the files on a usb key and do the shift in the engineer menu?

Took my car in yesterday to local dealer as bluetooth was pretty much unuseable SE SR.

Went in with :
MPU - R21
MCU - 69.3.5.50

Came out with :
MPU - R38
MCU - 69.4.4.0

Not actually tried BT yet but it's nice to have the top line of the display when using AA - external temp and climate details.

Sound - whatever the new software has done makes the sound system 100 times better!

Also seems my economy (yes sad i know) seems a lot better which is weird!

Good to hear it behaves better. Did they also update the TBox?

You have to go into the engineer menu to access version details of other modules. Open the phone dialler in the car and type in the code below - that should take you into the menu where you'll find the relevant screen.

Code:
#*#4479*#*

ta will take a look later

The menu should look like this:

And the versions screen like this:

(This was from a year ago, with 1100R33 software, so it may look different now).

I had some software updates done under warranty on my 3 month old Trophy last week; infotainment went from r40 to r63, which brought several improvements.

However, Bluetooth still won't remember a paired phone for long. Does anyone here know whether that's an issue with FICM or some other module?

I think the problem with OTA updates is due to the development of each country's mg i Smart system and the requirements of each country are different. The mg4 sold outside China uses the same operating system as the ones in China, which does not use the Mg I Smart. If I remember correctly, it uses an operating system called Zebra Venus. This is because each country's privacy requirements and policies are different. This is another reason why mgi Smart is updated and developed slowly. As for me, in Thailand, the requirements for Southeast Asia are not the same as those in the European Union. In Thailand, there was news that MG Thailand has its own operating system and application development department. I am not sure if the base or main operating system development is developed by China and then developed by Thailand or not. But from what the MG service center in Thailand said, the delayed OTA update is due to the Server and Cloud systems being unstable. As for the MG4 2024 in Thailand, which is produced and assembled in Thailand, the 12-inch screen model, the executives of MG Thailand said that it is the MG iSmart 2.0 system, a new system designed to support full OTA. The part in this picture is the MG4 CBU version that was upgraded last July to an imported version before being assembled and produced in Thailand. I think the MG4 in the EU after this should be upgraded to the MG I Smart 2.0 to fully support OTA because if I remember correctly, the ones sold in Europe were imported from Thailand.

Hi Elly,

Thanks for sharing these insights into MG's Thailand-specific features.

As I mentioned earlier, I’ve also tested a Thai release (R14) on my EU-spec model. Unsurprisingly, I wasn’t able to log in with the Thai MG iSmart account, and there was an issue preventing the car from connecting to the TBox.

This release is highly tailored for Thailand, comingnews and lottery infos, along with a revamped mor streamlined user interface featuring more polished icons and font.

For the sake of comparison, how do Thai car VINs begin, and what version is your TBox?

For reference:
2023 European specs SE models VIN start with LSJWH4091PNxxxxxx and the last version for the TBox is SNAKP23E32

My MG4 Trophy LR went in to get a Warranty Service for the undertray yesterday and I asked them to look at some software issues:

1. Bluetooth requesting pairing once every couple of days
2. LKA over zealous.
3. ACC slows excessively on bends.

I was rather nervous as the garage insisted on me pre-authorizing payment for investigations just in case these weren't warranty issues but in the end I wasn't charged for anything and got the following answers:

1. A USB update was applied for the telephony/bluetooth issue
2. "You have it set to most aggressive level that is the problem"
3. "It is supposed to slow on bends"

Today I went to compare the SW versions and found the following (changes in bold) but could do with a little input on interpreting this...

So I can see they have upgraded the infotainment from R59 to R63. Have they done anything else?
If yes, will it help with the BT issue? [I think the above tells me they didn't update the TBOX so probably not]
I note the VR version string is both changed and a different format what does this mean?

I believe the bluetooth is linked to the infotainment, so if R63 doesn't solve it, keep waiting i guess.. There are different LKA updates, but I don't believe it's avaliable for us to see which version.

BTW my lka is set to the lowest level and it's still hot garbage
