MG4 Software Update Thread

I believe the bluetooth is linked to the infotainment, so if R63 doesn't solve it, keep waiting i guess.. There are different LKA updates, but I don't believe it's avaliable for us to see which version.

BTW my lka is set to the lowest level and it's still hot garbage

Does the LKA setting persist between journeys? I had assumed it didn't like most other useful things.

Lane assist is on by default. The Renault solution (create a personal profile that can be activated) could override this. Otherwise, you need to use the (drop down) menus.

My MG4 Trophy LR went in to get a Warranty Service for the undertray yesterday and I asked them to look at some software issues:

1. Bluetooth requesting pairing once every couple of days
2. LKA over zealous.
3. ACC slows excessively on bends.

SNAP (almost!)

Mine went in for the same issues last week, and came out with the exact same versions you now have. The only difference to yours is that I had FICM 1300r40 / 68.3.8.0 / 42121 before.

I asked for a before and after list of software module versions, but was told they weren't allowed to give me that information. However, they did agree to list on the invoice what modules were upated, which were IPK, FDR, BMS, CCU, GW, IMCU, SCU, FVCM, HVAC.

The heater now works very well, with the temperature as selected, the radio doesn't go off and freeze, I have the ELK shortcut, and 1mph ACC increments.

However there is a new bug with the display of the camera system. When the screen is in dark mode and the camera view comes on, the rest of the screen (the blank areas round the images) turns bright white. It reverts to black when the camera goes off.

Also, the Bluetooth pairing issue is still there, which is the reason for my post yesterday asking if anyone knows for certain whether that's a FICM fault or an issue with some other module.

Mine has to go back for the undertray fix when the parts are in, so I will be asking again for Bluetooth to be fixed.

I am okay with the pull down menu, although ideally I wouldn't have to do it at the start of every journey. I found it really annoying before I got the pull down menu. I was driving a Seat yesterday with a very mild LKA that one could easily just live with. The improvements I want now are really just quality of life improvements.

I think the problem with OTA updates is due to the development of each country's mg i Smart system and the requirements of each country are different. The mg4 sold outside China uses the same operating system as the ones in China, which does not use the Mg I Smart. If I remember correctly, it uses an operating system called Zebra Venus. This is because each country's privacy requirements and policies are different. This is another reason why mgi Smart is updated and developed slowly. As for me, in Thailand, the requirements for Southeast Asia are not the same as those in the European Union. In Thailand, there was news that MG Thailand has its own operating system and application development department. I am not sure if the base or main operating system development is developed by China and then developed by Thailand or not. But from what the MG service center in Thailand said, the delayed OTA update is due to the Server and Cloud systems being unstable. As for the MG4 2024 in Thailand, which is produced and assembled in Thailand, the 12-inch screen model, the executives of MG Thailand said that it is the MG iSmart 2.0 system, a new system designed to support full OTA. The part in this picture is the MG4 CBU version that was upgraded last July to an imported version before being assembled and produced in Thailand. I think the MG4 in the EU after this should be upgraded to the MG I Smart 2.0 to fully support OTA because if I remember correctly, the ones sold in Europe were imported from Thailand.View attachment 33151
Good to see OTA is operational.

Good to see OTA is operational.
To date, it is unfortunately not, as stated above.
It has only been available in Thailand, for a short while and on a limited scale. They will probably reactivate the OTA in the future….

But their software is highly specific.

My bet remains, alas, the same, we are probably never going to see any OTA on MY22 and MY23 MG4.

If that's the Case, why would we ever see it on any new MG in the future?

Why don’t you just use CarPlay/android auto and not use Bluetooth?

I never said MG would never ever implement OTA updates on any car in the future. I’m certain they will. However, with the MG4, there’s currently a wide range of different module versions and plenty of bugs that need to be addressed.

We’re still a long way from achieving the unification required for a seamless OTA system.

With iSmart 2 on the horizon, our cars will soon be considered legacy.
The dev efforts will be probably focused on newer models.

I may be wrong of course, that’s just my guess.

Why don’t you just use CarPlay/android auto and not use Bluetooth?

I have used Bluetooth in all my cars for about the last 12 years, so that I can just get in with my phone in my pocket, knowing that when it rings I can answer handsfree.

That's what Bluetooth connectivity in cars was introduced for; it's disappointing that SAIC seem to have difficulty making it work, 20 years or so later.

That said, I know someone who has encountered similar issues with a 23 reg BMW.

In the MG4, Bluetooth is also necessary for audio on Android Auto.

I believe Android Auto on all vehicles uses Bluetooth Hands Free Protocol for calls and either USB cable or (when using a dongle/wireless AA headunit) Wifi Direct for video/app data communication.

Hello everyone,

I did some tinkering last night, which led me to test a very intriguing version: SWI131 29958 1100 R27.

This test was performed on a MY23 LHD SE

In stark contrast to SWI86 and SWI173, this version is fully functional, including iSmart connectivity in Europe. This release was made for Australasian Excite models, which are similar to the SE, so it doesn’t support maps. However, I suspect this version may also be distributed in other regions, as it includes all major European languages.

It’s highly similar to 1100 R38, but it has some notable advantages:

  • I experienced no bluetooth, AA/CP or connectivity issues during the test
  • It features newer, more modern fonts.
  • The interface is smoother and more responsive, essentially on par with the Thai version I tested over the weekend.

Since R38 is available for download as a rollback option, this version could provide a slightly enhanced user experience for those who are particularly picky about the system’s appearance and fluidity. Installing this release might even serve as a workaround for those experiencing issues with R38. That said, my primary recommendation remains to resolve any concerns through the dealership rather than by yourself.

A little disclaimer about my tests:

Pushing in a release that was not designed for your vehicle is not anecdotal. Be sure to understand that it carries some risks and don’t proceed without being sure of what you’re doing.

When I experiment, I try not to be over-confident and I’m always fully aware that it can end up by an embarrassing trip to the dealership, not covered by the warranty. In this case I would never blame anyone else than myself for this!

After testing, I rolled back to R59. If it weren’t for the lack of GPS functionality, I would consider using this release daily over R38.

Although SWI131 is used in Australia the latest is R05 which is over a year old, not sure where R27 was designed for

Someone in France has had an OTA update.
Here is the link.
Network used 4G, MG4 V2 R46.
I tried on mine, MG4 Trophy V1 R46, nothing in 4G or Wifi.

So, wait and see in the future

It seems more like a bug than a genuine update. MG hasn’t made any official announcement, and only one user has reported experiencing this update. Even then, he didn’t notice any change in the version.
