MG4 Software Update Thread

On the SE, you need to place the file usb_ota_update.zip at the root of the USB drive, not inside the AVN_MPU folder, and then update using AVN-SOC.

Once the update is complete, the system will run a Trophy release, and the engineer menu will be different. You can access it by tapping 5 times on the MPU version in the settings and entering the code 200519.

Be aware that getting everything to work isn’t straightforward. I suggest reading the last 20 pages or so of this thread to better understand everything involved.

If you still have some questions, just ask before performing the update. Better safe than sorry.

There's 1 app less on 63, 360 camera service

With the apk's renamed to match this is the comparison

Identical removed

Unfortunately, there’s no AVN-VIP / MCU provided with this version. The corresponding files (vipimage.bin and an .md5 file) are not included.
I'm waiting for this files from dealer, the tech will call me when he have them.
I'll update the folder when they're available

with R63, this morning I noticed when on the dual carriage way the speed symbol on the display in front of you had 70 rather than the national speed sign, therefore was not constantly flashing when going above 60. Not sure if this was also in R59

Is that because they've now integrated the speed sign recognition with the satnav, so it can differentiate between dual and single carriageway roads? What happens if you go on a single carriageway national speed limit signed road?

Well updating the apk's didn't go well, a lot of apps came up with one of the following

DO NOT DO IT
FICM also can't tell the state of the car so doesn't shutdown properly & won't let you do a USB update, original apk's have parsing problems so currently I'm stuck and can't control the HVAC and maybe other things

Can't say I've been in these pages in a while but I don't remember energy saving mode that greys out energy recovery setting, I also don't remember other settings being greyed out

I also tried making changes to the Android system a few days ago, although I didn’t attempt to install any APKs.

One successful tweak I made was modifying the night/day toggle in the developer options, tying it to the time of day instead of the light sensor. It worked, but unfortunately, the changes didn’t persist after a reboot. I proceeded cautiously since there seemed to be significant potential for things to go wrong.

I made some other tweaks, which also caused a few options to become greyed out. Fortunately, everything returned to normal after a reboot.

The R63 update worked on my SE. Unfortunately, the navigation doesn’t open for me. Does it need to be updated as well?

The files (vipimage, md5) also included in the image. How can they be updated?

Well some how I managed to get it to allow me to load an update, think it was the cluster apk
Trying R63 for a while but will likely go back to R46

Loaded maps?
Bunny is the best one to answer whether to load the MCU or whether to leave it as a SE version

The navigation icon appears, GPS data is retrieved, and then it fails. A small window pops up with a message saying something like “Navigation data could not be retrieved.”

I got the phone call : no MD5 file or vipimage.bin with R63 package, he perform a new download to be sure...
Maybe MCU is only updatable only with SIPS now ?

R59 was packaged with an old version as well (same as R46) although there was a newer version released with it
I haven't been on sips for about a month so couldn't say if there is any new updates available that side
