MG4 Software Update Thread

When adjusting ACC target speed, does a single tap up of the left joystick give 1 mph increments or 5 mph? If 5 mph then your car is missing the ACC update.
After the R63 update, it changed to 1. But this is before SC077, which for others made their ACC better as well. In both cases I did not notice any difference. Still excessive braking even if the car in front of me is not even braking

Remember : some dealers perform Reprogramming but skipped Configuration.
By doing that, update isn't complete. They have to do both updates or use One Press!
And after that, they can run a Routine for FDR and/or FVCM to perform a calibration.
But for that, they have to drive the car with a road with 2x2 lines until it say calibration is complete

Can confirm that they did not drive around in the car. Maybe this could be (part of) the reason?

Can you change the target charge limit slider setting in the car, under the Battery tile? If not then they didn't do the SIPS config.

I had r63 and sc077 installed. With latest stuff for ACC. Which clearly was wrong because ACC wasn't working properly. So they did 'the latest version' again, but nothing changed.
Also, LKA seems to ignore my indicator if I go to a lane to the right side of me (Both were known and solved April 2024 before).
I think I have a complex issue of software and calibration.

They at least have to complete the ECU update
For exemple :
FVCM not complete.webp

FVCM Reprogramming was complete but Configuration wasn't done. So, FVCM won't work perfectly.
And after that, a routine can be perform to (re)calibrate the ECU.
ROUTINE SIPS.webp

The infotainment version for your car is currently R63, but your vehicle contains around 20 other ECUs that manage various functions, from battery management to traction control or steering assistance. SC077 is not an infotainment update; it’s an update to some of these ECUs. Applying these updates improve the car’s overall behaviour. There is no direct way to tell if it has been installed, at least not from the infotainment.

Here is a picture showing the ECUs updated, which require “SIPS”, a dedicated software from SAIC, as well as a proprietary OBD dongle.

Is it possible to get this information without the SAIC software to check the status of updates?
I've got an OBD dongle that I used on previous car.

Unfortunately, you can’t use SIPS without credentials and a VDI/VNCI dongle. A simple OBD II adapter will not work.

It can probably be done, similar to how the unofficial eZS app lists firmware versions for the ZS EV. I'm not aware of the required Can Bus PIDs, or any app that does it.

My 2024 SE LR is coming up for its first annual service where the dealer should (as I understand it) update the s/w to the latest spec for free.

Currently the infortainment shows:
MPU Software Version: SW169-29958-1100R21
MCU Software Version: 69.3.5.0

What should I expect it to show if the update is completed? Will that include the improvements to LKA which currently have to turn off every time I drive the car.

Other than seeking the wisdom of the crowds on this forum, is there anywhere that lists the current s/w releases? As asked before is there a change history anywhere so I know what to expect?

SC0077 update to the LKA should be done as part of the service which will certainly vastly improve the LKA when done (mine wasn't done 2 weeks ago when my SR was serviced but that's another story!).

The latest infotainment version for the SE is R38 and some dealers are doing it but not all! It will give a different look to the A/C control screen and also restore the external temperature display in the top right hand corner of the central display. You could try telling them you are having Bluetooth issues and ask that they do the update.

My car had the 2nd service today. Software is updated to R38. I am still getting use to the new AC control screen. But Android Auto is not working with my phone on Android 11. Android Auto works on my wife's phone on Android 14. I tried clearing the cache and reboot my phone but no luck.

I called the garage. They told me to take the car back. Not sure if they can fix it if R38 doesn't support Android 11.

My SE LR was into Arnold Clark today for its first service. They did SC077. But the software remains at R21.

The only other thing I've noticed is the cruise control goes up and down by single mph values instead of by 5mph. Which is annoying.

I think you'll find if you hold the toggle switch up or down it'll change by 5mph increments, I've not tried it, but saw a post on it here somewhere
Yes, that's right. Mine's just changed to this and I have to say I preferred it the old way as you could easily change from, say, 60 to 70 without needing to look at anything just by nudging up twice. Now I have to either do it with 10 nudges or hold it and watch for when it goes in 5's, which means my eyes are on a squinty number rather than the road. I also now find it easy to overshoot the multiple of 10 that I'm wanting! I guess I'll get used to it but I'd rather it hadn't changed.

Same here. I think it is one of those cases of them listening to people complaining about it not going up in 1mph and not taking into account people who preferred it the other way.

In previous cars 1mph was best because the speedo wasn't accurate. So I would set it to 32mph, 73mph etc. but in the MG4 the speedo is accurate so I only ever set it to match the speed limit. Very easy to do when it goes in 5mph increments. Now it's a faff and I have to take my eyes off the road for longer.

Installing a trophy release on a SE is entirely possible, and it runs almost flawlessly if you tinker a bit with the maps and activation. I used R59, then R63 on my SE for several months without any issues.

I managed to install the maps, and the navigation was fully functional. However, I eventually reverted to R38 for several reasons:

  • I still used AA/CP rather than the stock GPS on a daily basis. The weather forecast is nice to have, but it wasn’t a deal breaker.
  • R38 is more advanced and runs more smoothly (whether on an SE or a Trophy). I tested it on @Mouss's Trophy and found that R63 was a bit laggy too.
  • The HVAC display on the main screen as well as the ability to shut off the car from the drop-down menu are very convenient features
Can you please tell me the procedure for how you did this because I tried but I can't upgrade?
