ZS EV Trophy
Just bought a ZS Trophy Connect a couple of days ago. This is my first EV and I’m slightly confused. It states that 198 miles for the range but when I charged it up it only went up to 149 miles for the range. I travelled to work and I did another short journey which equated to 11 miles but it stated that I’ve done 23 miles. Is this normal on an EV. Also how low % wise should you go before you charge an EV.

Hi there and welcome to the forum and the world of EV driving.

The range displayed is an estimate based on previous driving style, weather, terrain, etc.

A better guide to efficiency and range is the miles/kWh indicator which can be accessed by pressing the left arrow button on the righthand side of the steering wheel. Usually 3ish in the winter and 3.5 to 4+ in the summer.

I usually charge to 80% unless I've got a long journey the nest day, then I go to 100% and drive down to around 20% when I start looking for a rapid charger.

Thank you for your reply. Think I’m just getting a bit anxious! It’s all a bit of a learning curve but i appreciate your explanation. I’ve just looked at the miles/kWh indicator and it is sitting at 2.7 however, I have only had the car 5 days so it may take time to adapt to my drying style etc I love the car it’s just getting my head around everything else. Thanks again.

I know the feeling, it's a total information overload compared to petrol/diesel cars .. Advice: relax and spend some time reading instruction manual and everything will be fine. My mi/kWh winter sometimes goes to 2, sometimes to around 3, sometimes around 4 but in summer it's closer to 5. Don't worry and enjoy the ride. Charge as you need to, try to keep it below 80% unless you need a full charge which is also fine - no point stressing about it. Try using some public chargers before you have to, practice a bit ...

Thanks. I’m sure I will get there and need to switch off as you say and just enjoy. Getting a home charger fitted within the next few weeks which will make things much easier too

I haven't even fitted 7kW charger yet... Using 3-pin one from Amazon with remote app and since April, it works just fine for me, I top up 30% for 5 hours on 7p kWh cheap BG tariff with grand total of £1 for 50-ish miles range ...
Don't rush into installing 7 kW before researching all options and checking out some posts on the subject, especially if you have solar...

Hi Fred, The benefits of a home charging point for me are, discount of 4p/kWh on the 7.9p you're paying, we are also with BGas. Faster charging and as a result less losses as a percentage of the whole charge. And for me the big one, less likely to result in a fire.. I know all those who use the granny charger have a dedicated socket, but it's what would worry me. Down side £1K outlay, but I did get it interest free over 10 months.

We don’t have solar panels and have decided to go with a home charger (Zappi) which will hopefully be fitted within the next 2 weeks. This will probably be the better option for us in the long run.
