New owner of an an MG4 - Servicing Costs?

As long as the service is done by an MG-approved service centre then yes you do. How you plan the servicing is irrelevant - what matters is getting each service.
My local garage quoted £290 for my second service on an MG4 stating it was the charge prescribed by MG and not controlled by them - so I searched the internet and found that Kwik Fit are authorised to do the servicing and it is costing about 50% - my breakdown cover is with my car insurance. I'll get my MOT done by Kwik Fit - it does not affect my warranty......

Hi,

I took delivery of an MG4 Trophy LR on Christmas Eve, just wondering how much the servicing costs are each year in the UK, the dealer has offered me a servicing plan - just curious if its worth taking out

Also, so far, so good - love the car, obviously early days, but very happy with it

Thanks

John
I paid about 80 quid for my first service and about 120 for my second
It may pay to shop around tho' as even dealers within the same group seem to have different pricing structures

If the price is prescribed by MG how come all the dealers charge different prices.

Yes exactly. Typical dealer bullshit.
not really. It's the same as manufacturers setting a 'recommended' msrp on new vehicles, appliances etc. It's typically specifying an upper limit that the manufacturer will be happy with.

What is typical is the dealer who you choose to carry out a service telling you that the price is fixed by MG UK, as in the case of MG Bristol North. They told me that MG has withdrawn the low mileage priced service and that they are all the same price. Which looking at these posts is bullshit.

My dealer told me the same about the low mileage services when I bought my MG4 back in June 2023.

I was told the same by my local dealer. Phoned next nearest dealer they carried out low mileage service on my MG4. Shop around don't get bullshited.

I was taking a look at my lease and it's a £120 penalty per service interval missed, so it may actually be cheaper over 3 years not to get it serviced

Unless you make a (rejected) warranty claim and the lease company won’t fork out the money because you missed your services. Best to check your contract thoroughly, but also, shouldn’t service fees be included if you’re leasing?

I can’t understand why UK service intervals are different from Au, and EVs use very few if any parts on a service; more like plug in and download a fix.
FYI in Australia you can have your vehicle serviced at any licensed mechanic and you will not void any warranty issues on your vehicle.

There is only one relatively local to me - MG North Bristol. There was one in Wickwar (Wilcox) but they are no longer an MG dealer.
So I just have to put up with the overpriced service costs.

Same in UK... under UK law, the Motor Vehicle Block Exemption Order allows motorists to get their vehicles serviced wherever they choose - but the caveat is that it has to be done to manufacturer's correct specification (including types of fluids) IIRC to keep warranty valid.

Wilcox no longer a dealer, but can still provide MG servicing. Did my MG4 earlier this year.
