New Zealand owner

Has anyone had any luck getting their dealer to upgrade the Software, i bought mine about 2 months ago and it still have R06 on its (64kw Essence)
TL;DR

You must complain to the dealer about something to do with infotainment reliability that is so basic even they can understand; and the Lane Keep Assist is snapping the wheel and veers off into the hedges. It doesn't matter if any of that is true or not. This will give them a reason, endorsed by the customer, to perform the software and firmware upgrades under Warranty, protecting you and them from additional costs should things not go as intended.

e.g.
  • Just say that your screen keep crashing very often. How often? very often...
  • You can't connect your phone via bluetooth, or the bluetooth keeps disconnecting
  • the Lane Keep Assist is snapping the wheel and veers off into the hedges

I think it's OK to ask questions. New owners are enthusiastic and don't just come here for disembodied answers, but for interaction and chat with people who already have the cars. It's also OK to link directly to the place in an existing thread where the answer is given, though.

true.

It’s also ok to ask users to use the search function though.

You know, ‘Give a man a fish…’

The Zero chargers there between Nelson and Murchison were a welcome 47kW @80c/kWh. However, the cost to me was $0 as I have a free Zero subscription for 6 months.

So, i did take it back to the dealer, the clock had to be set to Tonga as the Wellington location was +00:00 hours also i had a couple of instances where the anti-collision activated when there was clearly no issue, long and short.

Dealer had never heard of R11 upgrade for the 2023 Essence. But and i need to express, they have gone out of their way to help, so kudos to them !

They emailed MG and asked, as i supplied evidence that it is available. MG said it was only available to Australia and not NZ.

I asked the dealership to supply the comms regarding this.

I personally think MG have this wrong, and this is in no way the fault of the dealership, rather, MG.

I would be interested in hearing if anyone in NZ has had their MG 4 2023 Essence updated to R11 ?

I really love my car, but having the LKA shortcut and a few other quirks fixed would be outstanding, esp the time zone..

My MG4 delivered in December 2023 (according to MG it’s a 2024 model year) came with:

SWI165-29176-1100R11
SNAKP0432A

Time zone is good and while you can’t permanently disable LKA there is a swipe down from the top of the screen and two clicks to disable. If you forget, the first time you drive over an asphalt patch that’s a different shade of black to the rest of the road, you’ll get a gentle reminder.

The cruise control adjustment is in 1 km/h steps but no AM radio so no use in a CD emergency.

Which dealer are you trying?

true.

I did. and most do, how ever , nothing really answered this for NZ dealers, hence me posting in the NZ owners topic, nothing like talking with ppl first hand in your own country.

most do not relate to NZ or Australia, which have different versions. Also, forums like wiki's are usually not curated, and can, and do have conflicting information. Not to mention that "things" change ;)

I've replied in a private message.

I have today 13/11/24 collected my Nov 2023 MG4 Excite from dealer (Giltrap MG, Epsom, Auckland). They had it overnight for warranty fix of aircon vents passenger side rattle and I also asked for software upgrade. They say they did both but as far as I can see the info in the settings screen remains exactly as it was before I took the car in. Are the kidding me or am I looking in the wrong place?
I dont know what it all means but have the following:
MPU SWI 131 29958 1100R 05
MCU 125.1.3.0
Update: 2024 04 05
Have I got the most recent update or not? What do other Excite owners have please.

Of the >20 firmwares and softwares, only 2 or 3 are visible from the infotainment screen (MCU, MPU, and possibly maps). The rest (all firmwares) are for non-infotainment purposes: air bags, brakes, motor controller, charging etc etc.

Thank you so much for that Coulomb. So that means there is no way I can see the status of my vehicle and what version of these firmwares is in operation?

No, just that there isn't a really easy way right now.

What we need is the MG4 equivalent of the eZS app (which is specific to the MG ZS EV Mark 1 and Mark 2).

Or if you don't mind getting immersed in details 🤓, you could figure out the MG4 equivalent of the PID that eZS uses to obtain firmware versions, and either do this by hand with a serial over Bluetooth app, or write your own app.

I documented how I did it by hand for my ZS Mark 1 here (gory details alert):

Thanks for that, but for me that really is the same as a NO. 😂
I cant believe that I am stuck not knowing if the dealer is snowing me or doing the business.....
I could go back to driving my 51 year old MG....at least I do know what's what there. Haha
