just down the road at scotch corner at the holiday inn there is 6 or so tesla superchargers with CCS combo can any EV use them or only tesla ?
If Porsche paid for the construction and running of those stations sure. It’s like saying only Porsche can use shell filling station i understand why Tesla have done it but that still don’t make it ethically right I
I completely agree. There was concern that ionity was also adopting that philosophy to indirectly dissuade brands other than the “founding fathers” to charge.I can see this from many viewpoints. If you’ve purchased a Tesla one of the main reasons may have been the wonderful supercharger network, which you’ve indirectly paid for , would you want to have it used by all and have to wait to charge your car? From Tesla viewpoint they’ve spent millions on the supercharger network and it’s part of their selling package and one of their big usp’s - should they be punished for being forward thinking? From the none Tesla EV owner - what would they pay to get in this exclusive club? If it became a public system for all would it rapidly go downhill ? Maybe it will happen? I’m sure there have been discussions. It would of course impact Tesla sales and help the competition too. Other manufacturers would love to say they have access to it. Personally I would like to see a real push to get the existing public charger infrastructure improved and high standards and cost controls introduced to bring as much confidence in using this as Tesla owners have in the current Tesla network.
They almost certainly are. I strongly believe Tesla would do the same though - if they opened it up, the “non Tesla” rate would be massive.I completely agree. There was concern that ionity was also adopting that philosophy to indirectly dissuade brands other than the “founding fathers” to charge.
The critical point, IMHO.... Without a robust, reliable and (fairly) economical national public charging network, I can see many people (possibly including myself) deciding that the system simply isn't fit for purpose - their purpose, which is individual.Personally I would like to see a real push to get the existing public charger infrastructure improved and high standards and cost controls introduced to bring as much confidence in using this as Tesla owners have in the current Tesla network.
Tesla owners pay 24p/kWh. Ionity customers pay 69p/kWh (owners of Ionity brand cars get it cheaper, but still...)Mr Musk went to ford and the other car makers and said if you pay some $, ill keep the network open and help pay the cost to expand the network. Ford and Co laughed and refused. 8 years later, Ford and Co formed ionity and throwing money at it.....
That 24p is ever increasing though (have heard its location dependant and they are pushing the prices up quite often - not sure how true that is) - and VW customers can access IONITY for 25p with the right subscription so I assume other brands affiliated with them can do the same.Tesla owners pay 24p/kWh.
