The SE 1100R38 Infotainment Thread

To answer some questions ...

I turned off the "welcome" lights and the Dark theme seemed to hold. I'll have to try again with them activated just to confirm. In all cases auto-lights were selected.

HVAC temperature range is LO --> 16 ................ 30 --> HI ... so the range seems to have moved down a couple of degrees or so. I've set my target to 22°C so I'll see how that goes. (Was previously 25°C)

The LDP On toggle still exists in the pull down menu.

I forgot to check the language options - TBC.

I forgot to look through the options re. auto-lock - TBC.

I've not really looked at the radio station images. I do know that the Radio X logo doesn't show ... I'll have to check some BBC stations as they previously showed the logos under R33.

Update:

No Turkish language option
No door auto-lock option
The theme remained at Dark even after to set the "welcome" lights option on ... one to keep an eye on.

Under the Sound settings there's a 3D Sound option (with selections of Driver and something else meaning the whole car). I don't remember that option being there previously, but maybe it was.

You need to update signature now 😉

My main interest is whether there's an improvement that's worth having on it, and whether there are any bugs/downgrades that might mean it's worth refusing it.

As of right now I'd say stick with R33 - I've not seen anything obvious with R38 ... even the HVAC change was probably the HVAC software update rather than R38. (Unless there's something that ties them together ... e.g. you need R38 to get the correct temperature target values).

I was out in the car again last night and the theme remained as dark ... I'll have to try again today in daylight in case R38 is applying Auto theme regardless of selection. But apart from that (and the external temp now being in whole degrees rather than half degrees) I see no reason why not ... UNLESS you also need to get the HVAC update in tandem, in which case make sure they're both done. :)

Sure? No. Best impression? Yes.

You have R33 so you can tell me ... do you see, e.g., 11°C or 11.0°C?

Possible they changed to double digits? One of my old cars was whole degrees ≥10 and half degrees <10.

One way to tell if HVAC’s logic has changed in recent modules is to assess whether the ‘preferred pathway’ has changed. In the one I have (which also had an HVAC update as part of R33 in January) will favour the front (face) vents when blowing cooler air and wind screen & feet when blowing warmer air once at temperature when the vent selection is completely automatic.

That’s an important distinction: if the outside temperature is 5°C and I set the HVAC to 25° (or 22° in your case) and full on AUTO, the only vents in operation at the very start will be windscreen and feet. After a few minutes it will start blowing some warm air through the face vents too.
A few minutes later, once the cabin has reached the desired temperature (22°C in each case because of offset in R33) it will select face vents only. That’s what causes the temperature fluctuation the most.
If after reaching the desired temperature it still blows air mostly through windscreen and feet, then the logic has been corrected.

In some other makes and models, traditionally the windscreen + feet is the vent selection of choice by the climate control unless it has to rapidly cool or warm the cabin.

Not in this case ... last night the temperature was showing as 9°C; with R33 that would have shown as 9.0°C per @fnegroni's feedback above.

In the grand scheme of things this is a nothing-burger really ... having an external temperature indication is the important point. In essence R38 has reverted to the R13 style of showing temperature.

The half increments removal is maybe to prevent the bong noise each time it hovered between 4 and 3.5, to tell you it might be icy. This would perhaps give it a little more room for manoeuvre in between bong noises

I've 3d sound option on R21 v2.

Do you have outside temperature on R38? Cause i don't.

And what do you think about overall response behaviour of the screen and lka.

I've 3d sound option on R21 v2. ... thanks - I couldn't remember from R33 whether it was there

Do you have outside temperature on R38? Cause i don't. ... Yes. R13 = Yes, R16 = No, R21 = No, R33 = Yes (in 0.5°C increments), R38 = Yes (back to 1°C increments like R13)

And what do you think about overall response behaviour of the screen and lka. ... Screen response seems the same as R33, which was better than R13. (I never had R16 or R21). LKA - I haven't driven enough since the updates to make a considered opinion, but it initially feels better. Note that R38 has nothing to do with LKA - other updates affect that.
Responses above in bold. :)

Well that's the rear undertray support finally fitted. :)

And an anecdotal update re. the HVAC - I now have it set at 22°C (previously 25°C) and full auto, and the cabin temperature seems to be being maintained well at a comfortable temperature. 👍

Thanks for this, they finally took my feedback on board 😅
