Tyre pressure warning after pumping up [SOLVED]

I had a crazy Aussie son in law once who drove a sporty corsa. He inflated his tyres to 54psi because the warning on the tyre wall said max pressure 54psi. Continually put my daughter and grandkids at risk but insisted he was correct. Thankfully he's now gone!

My pressures were getting a bit low, so I went to a garage and pumped them up to 29psi on the machine. But the sensor in the car is now showing them lower than when I started (21psi)! Is this an error people have seen? They certainly look correctly inflated by eye.
Thanks
Stuart.Tyre pressures on my new MD3 Hybrid is 37 psi all round.Quite a difference. That is what says on the door post.

29psi is far too low

The most important check that needs to be carried out on any vehicle is the state of your tyres and this includes pressures.
The reasons for this are,
Safety
Economy/running cost
Ride comfort
From the safety point the tyre is the only thing keeping the vehicle onto the road and its pressure is very important in doing this.

On the economy point wrong tyre pressures can increase the amount of fuel you use on your journey and that applies to all types ICE or EV and the amount of miles a tyre will cover before it’s worn out and needs to be replaced. Expensive nowadays

The effect on the ride comfort can also be affected in extreme circumstances of over or under inflation and again effects the life of the tyres

So my advice to everyone is to purchase a good quality tyre pressure gauge and use it each time you check your tyres a weekly is the recommended time period but to be fair these days with the advent of TMS system in vehicles the weekly check as all but been replaced but still needs a regular check as even TMS can malfunction.

I never use a garage forecourt tyre inflation machine except in an emergency as they are generally inaccurate and often abused or damaged.
As pointed out above by Siteguru and Ian Key the best time to check you tyres is when the vehicle has been standing over night and the tyres are cold.
So a good investment is a reliable gauge and tyre pump this can be a cheaper foot pump or electrical it’s the gauge that matters more than the pump.
Following this simple points above you will get more MPG or MPKW hour and a Safer journey and you tyres will last a good bit longer.

Mine is same, I believe it is a sensor error.

mine have had issues since it had it's service in May this year. The rears are constantly getting low pressure warnings, even at 2.4 / 2.5 bar. It's back in the garage this week or next so I think I will get them to put them up to 2.6/2.7 ish and see how that goes.

I had my first tyre pressure warnings of the "winter" in the past week. Last Tuesday after driving for about 30 miles (into atrocious weather) one rear tyre pinged at 2.5 bar. It cleared at my first charging stop and stayed cleared. Then on Sunday driving north again the other rear tyre did the same thing, in similar conditions. The temperature was about 11°C. I suppose I'd better do something.

I just scanned the car, which has been sitting in the garage since yesterday afternoon. No tyre pressure alerts showing, but two of the tyres, one front one rear, are only showing 2.4 bar.

I would suggest you read the whole thread as the original poster was confused between PSI and BAR.

The MG4 displays pressures in Bar and the target pressures are listed in the same unit.

29psi is indeed around 2.0bar, but this is well below the recommended pressures on my car. I set them to 2.6bar which is around 38psi. The recommendation on the car depends on load but is shown as 2.4-2.6bar, or 35-38psi.

The sensors are pretty accurate.
