MG3 Hybrid+ Trophy
The chap I spoke to at the dealers yesterday asked if I could make a list of any problems with the MG3 Hybrid SE or Trophy that I am aware of, whether it be the software or mechanical, interior, how it drives or whatever and he will send it up the food chain and see what happens.

(Don't muddy the waters with other models please as I will be using cut and paste into an email)

1. HVAC. Update the software for auto mode. It's either cold or hot. So now I only use manual control which I have set up correctly for me. Would be nice to set 22 , switch auto and watch the world go by.

We have had our Trophy since sept ,all fine but one bad problem. Last week we went to Somerset and had to ascend Porlock Hill twice {very steep and winding}near the top the car was fatigued and i did not think it would make it, for a 1.5 L engine it was pathetic. Conclusion: avoid steep winding hills.

Reminds me of an incident many, many years ago when 'old bangers' were much more common. We were camping in a Ford Escort Campervan, dodgy handbrake and towing a small camping trailer. I also took the wrong turn and hit Porlock Hill! To say the little Escort was fatigued would be the understatement of the year! The bloke in front of me was driving a Ford Granada Automatic. His car was hidden behind a veil of blue smoke by the time we reached the top. What you might call a 'hairy moment'!

Hi Aitch1 lol would not like to walk up it

I think that the driving mode should be memorized according to its use and not systematically set to normal
I had it in Sport mode

My driving mode automatically switches to normal when I start the vehicle, it does not keep the last driving mode used (like on my mg4).... so I confirm that the driving mode cannot be MEMORIZED in permanently, and obliged to change it to eco mode for example, each time
so I confirm that it would be good if we could do it.

Not sure if you will find this relevant, Kev, but is it not possible for the Chinese parent company to combine all the best expertise from all the models produced by Chinese manufacturers, and come up with a 'Best of the Best' software system for the MG3. After all, this is a totally new car. Surely we can expect top notch and modern technology. And it's such a shame that an excellent, economical and powerful little car has been spoilt by shoddy tech, when all that wonderful IT is out there.

1. I cannot get the screen brightness right for both night and day in Auto. I have to manually set the screens to max in the day and minimum at night, especially for unlit country roads otherwise too dangerous at night. Any advice welcome.
2. Can't find the 'mode' button in the dark.
3. Cannot set any sound alert levels when parked.
4. Nav map way out of date, though apparently issued Feb 2024. Any updates available and will these be free for life as with others?

For point 1) - I set it at the beginning and I'm going from memory: with the navigator screen, by clicking on the 4 horizontal lines, you can go to a menu where you can choose the type of vision to be assigned for the day and the one for the night. It only works with "AUTO".

1. I confirm the malfunction of the HVAC system. The car either cools or heats, nothing in between.

2. The AUTO function on the HVAC does not work correctly. Sometimes, immediately after starting the car, the air conditioning starts blowing at maximum power without reason, and it is necessary to turn off the “LO” mode on the display, which activates by itself. Only then can the correct temperature be set.

3. The car has weak performance when driving uphill with a low battery. At that moment, when driving uphill, it cannot go faster than 20-30 km/h (apparently a software issue).

4. The brightness control on the screens does not work properly. The unified brightness control for the displays also doesn’t function, and the brightness of both displays doesn’t adjust when the low-beam headlights are turned on.

A
I just use the mute button on the steering wheel as an on/off switch (press right toggle), and unusually, it's one function of the MG3 that remembers it's previous setting.

I also use the radio mute button on the steering wheel, which also controls the volume (+ and -) and frequency change.
In particular, I use this button if the person in my car is using their phone; while when I use mine, it automatically mutes.

I would like it to go off with ignition. That way it gives a confirmation you have switched car off. especially when drawing upin ev mode.

However, when you press the button on the handle, the outside mirrors fold and the central monitor turns off. Otherwise, the car beeps and warns you that you have not turned off the engine.
There are those who stop and wait (in the car) for a few minutes, allowing the passenger to run errands, if they cannot find a parking space; continuing to listen to the radio is useful.

I find that there is a logic in what is expected.
The car can be used by multiple people: wife, sons, daughters.
If you leave it fixed in Sport mode, and I always use regeneration 3 (it takes getting used to it), another driver could find themselves in difficulty, so "normal" and "regeneration 2" are the default.

Also on the Clio and Captur Techno E-Tech full hybrid 145 the three driving modes and regeneration (only 2 levels) return to normal.
I also imagine the Japanese Hybrids.

I agree with what you say, but it would also be nice to have the option to switch it off for those who don't want to listen to it but still want to sit in the car.
