What is wrong with your MG3-Hybrid (ONLY)

I find that there is a logic in what is expected.
The car can be used by multiple people: wife, sons, daughters.
If you leave it fixed in Sport mode, and I always use regeneration 3 (it takes getting used to it), another driver could find themselves in difficulty, so "normal" and "regeneration 2" are the default.

Also on the Clio and Captur Techno E-Tech full hybrid 145 the three driving modes and regeneration (only 2 levels) return to normal.
I also imagine the Japanese Hybrids.
yes, this can be understood, and is defensible.
but this post requires making a list of concerns and wishes that “big ears” could raise.
and not solutions or tips to what owners encounter and would like to see evolve differently.

Not sure if you will find this relevant, Kev, but is it not possible for the Chinese parent company to combine all the best expertise from all the models produced by Chinese manufacturers, and come up with a 'Best of the Best' software system for the MG3. After all, this is a totally new car. Surely we can expect top notch and modern technology. And it's such a shame that an excellent, economical and powerful little car has been spoilt by shoddy tech, when all that wonderful IT is out there.
I have Emialed MG a few times querying when we will get an updated software release, not reply.

What I hate is how much messing about you have to do to set the car up how I like to drive, even turning stuff off requires a degree going to all the different pages, I'm sure they could have made it worse, I did a long drive yesterday (yes, the seats are crap) I was on the M1 and wanted to use ACC it has it's own dedicated button but you need to stop and go into the software to enable it.

It totally ruins the joy of a new car, ANY car.

1. I cannot get the screen brightness right for both night and day in Auto. I have to manually set the screens to max in the day and minimum at night, especially for unlit country roads otherwise too dangerous at night. Any advice welcome.
2. Can't find the 'mode' button in the dark.
3. Cannot set any sound alert levels when parked.
4. Nav map way out of date, though apparently issued Feb 2024. Any updates available and will these be free for life as with others?
Yes I was using Android Auto with G Maps last night but the centre screen didn't darken at all, yet if I had just been using the phone to navigate it would have also it doesn't show the GPS speed on the screen.

Any help with that?

I would like it to go off with ignition. That way it gives a confirmation you have switched car off. especially when drawing upin ev mode.
I would like that stupid button to be where a normal ign lock would be, so if I'm in dumb mode I don't have to contort myself to reach it, also a way of being able to double lock it like on some other cars by a double button press.

I agree with what you say, but it would also be nice to have the option to switch it off for those who don't want to listen to it but still want to sit in the car.
yes, but there are volume buttons in the middle.

Too late :D :D I'll just have to sort it out, most of them are valid too

I do use the mute button option on the steering wheel and the pause option etc, but the issue with those options is that 3 minutes later I get a bong asking me, if I want to switch it off or leave it on. It would be useful to have the option that it either goes off with the ignition like Evor suggested and you can switch it back on if you wish or an option to select an off button whenever you like and not when the car wants to.
It's not a major issue, but in terms of feedback to MG, that is what I would be saying.

Maybe you get this with 'pause', I don't know because haven't used it, but when muted it remains muted for as long as I want.

So far (only days with car😀) I’ve not had any ‘bongs’ when I’ve pressed ‘pause’ and radio has remained silent for several minutes (to end of journey).

You can switch it to USB music/video and back to the radio too, but like the rest of the car's software, it must have been designed by someone who has never driven a car.

It's when you stop and turn of the ignition, while you remain in the car.

HI all MG3 Hybrids, has anyone found an unobtrusive way of keeping rear seat belts from getting caught when returning previously opened back seat please, awkward when on your own.

It's a bit of a nuisance isn't it, I just tuck the buckle under the front corner of the seat base, it lifts up really easily, and it holds the buckle out of the way while you fold the seat back up and down.

We have had our Trophy since sept ,all fine but one bad problem. Last week we went to Somerset and had to ascend Porlock Hill twice {very steep and winding}near the top the car was fatigued and i did not think it would make it, for a 1.5 L engine it was pathetic. Conclusion: avoid steep winding hills.
This has been well documented on other sites, mainly by European drivers who encounter long hills more frequently. Apparently the problem is due to the petrol engine continuing to charge the battery, losing about half its power rather than using full power to keep the car moving. Supposed to be a software upgrade but not aware of anyone having received it. Don’t bother writing to mg management uk. Unhelpful ( “can’t comment: ask dealer”).

Single rear sear back is a major inconvenience.

While the Pilot controls seem to work, their function is clunky compared to the same facilities in other makes. Not smooth.

The engine rpm can be disconcerting and appears to be over-reving. 2500rpm while I am driving at 35 mph.

Satnav useless without live traffic.

I'm not a fan of the built in sat nav either, as it's fairly clunky. I prefare to use Google maps, but to be fair, very few built in systems have the option of live traffic. Those that have usualy charge directly or indirectly a subscription for the privilege.

Agree with over-reving especially unecessary gear drops. Today 50mph went to overtake not foot down but slow press of accelerator it decided needed to drop a gear and went from 1800 to about 5500 revs and no significant acceleration had to ease off to let it change up to make the overtake. The engine management seems to confuse itself.

Tell NCAP to stuff their safety ratings and make turning off things like speed warnings permanent and not required for every trip.

Make the car remember driving mode and regen setting from switch off, without defaulting to normal and 2.

Improve how the car accelerates by better integration of engines and gears, so it is smoother.

Remap the engine/transmission software to stop excessive engine revs when going uphill.
